I've not had any songs published for ages, but now I'm back in the fold.

I signed with CD Baby Publishing and I'm now a member of ASCAP. This all came about through the release of my new band's debut album (released independently).

It would be cool if somebody covered one of my songs or one got licensed for use on TV or a film, etc.

I've been at this long enough to know that it's a long shot to get anywhere. Unfortunately, I can't stop writing, performing and recording music, I'm a total lifer.

At least I have my lawyer gig to fall back on. (:oD

Hi 5strats!

That´s great!
I´d love to be your producer ;-)
No, seriously, it´s great!
The singer - not sure if it´s you - absolutely reminds me of Robert Foster from the (late, great) Go Betweens - one of my favorite bands!

Keep up the good work - and I wish you success (in whichever way)!

cheers - C.

carsten - Yes, that's me singing. I'm not that good of a singer, but I've heard worse I guess. (:oD

Really? Thanks for sharing that. I struggle with the question of whether to continue or whether to find a "real" singer.

ps - I might be a profession songwriter, but the pay certainly isn't very good. I typically get $0.01 for a single play on streaming services.

"...but the pay certainly isn't very good."

I owe my fan base that bought my record a dinner. All three of them. Brother, brother-in-law and former bandmate. Lol.

I wouldn't worry about the money. Life is short. I've made it and I've lost it.

I stopped letting that be the goal. I'm thinking of quitting the practice of law and standing on a street corner with a tip jar. I'm convinced I'll be happier.

Making money would be nice, but I liken my most recent endeavors to recreational painting. Or refrigerator art. I wouldn't be adverse to something more lucrative falling into my lap like a musical editor stumbling across one of my tunes and placing it in a TV show or film. But I don't have the young man drive to go chasing that dream anymore. I just like creating.

Practicing law is my day job too. It pays well, which allowed me to fund the recording and manufacture, etc., of my band's CD, but I feel like a fish out of water a lot of the time at work.
