They're giving it away (it's on v6, but I haven't upgraded from 5 yet, no need for my use).

If you've wanted to play with it, or wanted a no-price DAW that works, there you go.

User interface is different than most (but I've used T3 - and t5 set up like T3) for a long time. But free is free and it's a low-system resource thing that makes it grand for older laptops etc.

Also available on Linux, don't ask me why. Go go crazy programmers.

I'm totally unfamiliar with Tracktion. Does it come with plugins?

Yea, last I checked. I'm not a big plugin guy but it does support them without issue (couple of my mastering ones work just fine as do the venerable Mackie ones I still abuse for some things).

A couple years into casual Pro Tools use I'm not about to bog myself down with yet another DAW, but its cool that there are free options out there. If I were starting over I'd rethink Pro Tools, if only because of the stupid iLok dongle.

Rob, do you get all of your eq/effects from outboard gear? These days I'm totally reliant on what P/T and a few add ons give, save some occasional compression through my Focusrite Twin Track.

Yea, it's outboard stuff except a couple mastering plugins - I learned early to not trust plugins and formats because, well, they get obsoleted at the worst possible times and you have *nothing* useable any more without running an obsolete computer that can't be secured or counted on in any real capacity.

Also a case of the outboard stuff I'm using hasn't been replicated in the emulator realm at this point (I wish it had).

I have additional stuff past the pic of the primary desk (and the not seen master board), and a couple units tucked under the desk that are controlled by the MIDI chain.

There are "technically" better units than most of it...but I absolutely love a few of the rack units and nothing quite does the feel or a particular vibe.

I'm a fan of the early 12-to-16 bit digital stuff in that it's glitch, nasty, and can be overloaded in unmusical and good (to me) ways - I have better verbs than the Qverb+ and the Midiverb 2 in any of my modern multis, but none quite do the textural stuff the same way.

Same thing with the Lexicon Vortex. If there was ever a more modern equivalent, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat - just to get more than 16 A/B presets and a little more control.

The pile of stuff on the desk.

I download Tracktion, but I haven't had time to use it because I'm busy getting my stuff done with Studio One. However,I would like very much to get to Tracktion if and when I get time.
