Life gets in the way of my G.A.S.

It seems in this economy (or is it my personal economy?) this is the only way to get a new piece of gear - sell something; a guitar, an amp, pedals, a kidney...

...anyway, I got pretty radical this week and took an offer from a guy who bought both of my Larrivee electric guitars; an RS-4 and an RS-2.

I really liked the guitars, especially the RS-4 - one of the best made [electric] guitars I've personally owned.

What made me do this? Why, GAS, of course.

I've wanted a Martin D-35 for some time (really, I wanted the Johnny Cash Signature D-35, but no way can I swing that one!).

And this year is the 50th Anniversary of the D-35 (1965-2015)...so it seems like a good time to invest in one.

Next week I'll be ordering the D-35 Standard with two options: 1 3/4" nut and Grover butterbean open back tuners. My local dealer is giving me a great price on this guitar, even though it will have to be built in Martin's Custom Shop because of those two slight modifications from the standard specs! [My price will actually be lower than MAP for a model w/no options and no Custom Shop provenance!]

According to the rep at Martin, it will take around 4 months to build. I'm in no hurry...got plenty to do between now and then (and more gear to sell!).

I've got a Martin custom shop order nearing completion any day now. I ordered a Martin CEO-7 with a different neck profile, upgrade waverly tuners and the traditional Martin imprint on the back of the headstock. My dealer quoted the guitar at $3700.00 ( Nazereth Music Center) and discounted the guitar the traditional 40% off of MSRP. Killer deal, though it's been nearly 6 months since I ordered it. Hopefully the CS has caught up with their back log.

Those are nice looking guitars, Napman41. Is that a 00 size or 000? The You Tube videos sound very good, too.

I ordered the D-35 today! As I think I mentioned elsewhere, this will be my first Martin, though I've almost bought a 15 series a few times in the past.

When I ordered it today, I spent some time strumming and picking on the righty D-35/50 they have hanging on the wall (the '50' denotes it was made this year during the 50th anniversary). I don't know if they're sprinkling some special fairy dust on these, but that one truly sounds amazing (still new - not broken in); I'll be happy if mine starts out sounding that nice!

Yes - I also hope they're catching up on special orders - hope I won't have to wait 6 months, although what's 6 months for a "'lifetime' guitar?

I would love a top end acoustic but unfortunately here in oz we don't have anyone that carries other than cheap lefties

and the acoustic is one thing I want to play before I buy.

Electric i'll take a gamble on but acoustics its about feel and sound

I can't wait to see pictures of your new D-35! I think waiting four months would be agonizing, though!

Changed the order today to a standard D-35 - no options (nut width, tuners). The custom shop ones don't get the 50th Anniversary label, and that was one of my reasons for ordering one now...

...and I just saved around $300 - my price for the standard lefty is $2199.

Still have about a 4 month wait, though. Not a big deal, I have three nice Larrivees to play (and Larrivee has been my acoustic guitar of choice for over 20 years).
