FDP Forum / The 'Pup' Tent / Pickups magnets to close to speaker degaussing? How close?

May 5th, 2015 02:06 PM   Edit   Profile

Some people say an old tele who has been put against an amp with the pickups first slowly loses the output out of the pickup. My question is maybe stupid but how close to my vox ac30 do I put my guitar to avoid strong magnetic fields? The side of the amp should be less harmful and maybe its a problem only if the pickup almost are in contact with the magnet on the backside of the speaker I mean very close?Does someone know anything about this?Is it a bad idea to put to guitars in the same gigbag?

I doubt this is anything to worry about.

Hold a screw driver loosely in your hand. At what distance does it need to be from a speaker mangnet before the magnet pulls the screw driver out of your hand?

My guess is that it would need to much closer than that. It needs to be at least that close, and my guess is that even that won't do it.

No problem at all putting two guitars into a double gig bag.

Magnets get damaged by impacts and strong magnetic fields. Speaker mags are not that strong.

Does the field project around the transformer if the amp is on?

Does your transformer become more magnetic when the amp is on? (Use same screwdriver test as above).

(The answer is no, and magnetic fields don't project.) :)
