Yamaha makes a decent classical guitar.

Yamaha are masters of the affordable classical guitar.

Avoid really old ones, the cedar tops diminish in tone after a long time. One of the reasons why you don't see really fine vintage classical guitars holding their value like old violins. I believe that also holds true for trumpets due to the change in the metal properties over a long period of time.

Check eBay for an older used Alvarez-Yairi. Very nice guitars at decent prices.

My wife got her Takamine EC132C (ASW, MIJ, EQ) used really cheap.

If you want to go new, La Patrie (part of Godin) is worth a look. Be ready to try as many as possible. Note--I did a quick search, they've gone up quite a bit in price.

As previously mentioned, Yamaha makes several affordable classical guitars.

My cheap Lucero nylon string guitar plays and sounds nice. It's an A/E with a cutaway. The neck is very comfortable.

If you could find a used Takamine C132S for $500 or less, that definitely would be worth a look. I have a "blem" (a couple of barely noticeable top scars) Yamaha Flamenco guitar (model CG171SF) that I bought for $110 that sounds great.

I've decided I'm going to buy a Yamaha. I've never been disappointed with any Yamaha purchase. If for some reason I don't like it, I'll just ship it back for a return.

Well, I just got off the phone with Sweetwater and that fella pretty much sold me on the Córdoba C5. He said Yamaha is a great choice too, but based on the type tone I described he thinks is like the C5 the best out of the choices available in my price range.

You should try it out first though. Not saying the Cordoba is not good because I haven't tried one.

But for a regular sized Classical guitar some of the Yamaha's are real nice.

Good luck with your purchase and let us know how it all turns out.

I wonder how much that package is? Sweetwater quoted $300 with a gig bag. I'd rather have a hard case as I'd being carrying it on my truck at times

Cool! I was wondering when La Patrie was going to up their game with an ASW offering.

They've had that model and other ASW guitars for some years. I've had mine for at least 3-4 years now.

La Patrie is also Godin and Seagull guitars yes? I am liking their family of guitars up there in Canada more and more.

Yamaha also does indeed make nice affordable classicals.

Back when I used to closely follow the Godin famalies of acoustics La Patrie hadn't yet offered an ASW.

Yes. There are several acoustic brands under the Godin umbrella: Simon & Patrick, Norman, Seagull, La Patrie, and Art & Lutherie. The only acoustic under the Godin brand name that I'm aware of is the 5th Avenue archtop.

I'm late to the party, but I love my C5. I got mine on recommendation from Guitar Center guy when I asked "What's the best classical-style guitar for about 3 bills?"
He responded, "Cordoba C5, and it's a shame because I have none on stock."
If he was willing to recommended a guitar he didn't even have on hand, that cinched it for me!

Even my guitar teacher played it for 3 minutes and said "I LOVE the neck on this thing..."
