I haven't been active on FDP. I do know that the Dallas Guitar Show Jams & perhaps the Arlington Guitar Show Jams have displaced the Houston Jams.

Is there any chance of a Houston FDP Jam?

The home to most of the Houston jams went up in smoke.

Yeah, sad news. I think that I posted in that thread. One way to look at is Traves was probably eventually going to be part a subdivision, the land became available sooner than expected.

And I know that a couple really great FDPers got tired of organizing the Houston jams, which is perfectly understandable. Nobody else, and that includes me, stepped-up.

I might maybe be able to organize a p-----g contest in a brewery, but not a music jam.

I would love to have another Houston jam. We need to find a venue, and someone will have to let the regulars know about it...

Ha! You can find us a venue!

To be honest, I haven't really looked. I do know a couple places that might work, if I can find time I'll drop by and see what I can do.

I'll have my people call in some favors. Which would you prefer, the Rivers Oaks Country Club, or Jones Hall? LOL!!

Howdy Tony

From the Jams 101 textbook:

If any local FDPers are members of the VFW, American Legion, or a VFD--these joints usually have a hall of some kind you can use for a jam.

If you have to rent the hall, cost is usually very reasonable for one afternoon/evening.

Some communities have a hall or community center you can sign out/rent for an evening too.

Have someone supply a simple PA (two cabs on stands, a six-channel PA, three vocal mics), a drummer can bring a kit, a bass player can supply the bass rig, and you are off to the races. You'll need at least four 15-amp power outlets to run the PA and amps.

Bring in your own food (pot luck!) and--rules permitting--beverages. Arrange for one or two long folding tables to place food on, and seating (folding chairs, etc.). You can also ask attendees to bring their own seating, like the folding camp chairs that everyone seems to have these days. Don't forget paper plates, napkins, coolers/ice, utensils, and trash cans/liners.

Cheers brother,

Geno

Geno, sorry for being late with a big Thank you! for the solid advice.

The JEGs sub-forum has gotten real quiet over the years, and the Houston Jam thread is 97% dead.

The interesting thing is we (OK, actually my wife) now have access to/use of a basic PA set-up that pretty much matches what you mentioned.
