FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Jaguars & Jazzmasters / Can I replace CP Jag HH Trem Bar with Jaguarillo bar?

Jan 24th, 2015 10:15 PM   Edit   Profile

I have a Classic Player Jaguar HH. Great guitar, but I do have a couple of issues with it. This model has the tremolo plate moved a little closer to the bridge to increase the break angle of the strings over the bridge. The bar also screws into the collet like a vintage Strat bar. Great ideas, but, unfortunately, they forgot to shorten the length of the tremolo bar to compensate for the new trem plate position. I find the bar to be too long. The tip of the bar bottoms out on the pickguard when I dump the bar all the way down. Also, the bar is not in the ideal position for me when the bar is screwed all the way into the collet. It sometimes gets in my way when I pick on the high E string. I recently had a chance to demo a Jaguarillo at a local shop. With the Jaguarillo, they seemed to have corrected the trem bar issues. Kinda frustrating, since the CP Jag is the more expensive guitar, but....whatever! They shortened the bar on the Jaguarillo to compensate for the new tremolo plate position. It also does not get in my way when screwed all the way down, yet is still within easy reach when I need to grab it. The bar is also stiffer than that on my CP Jag, which I prefer. Will the Jaguarillo bar screw directly into my CP Jag collet or would I also need to replace the collet? Does Fender sell these parts?

Don't know the answer but why dont you take the arm from your jag into the shop and see if it fits the Jaguarillo.

If you ask nicely and buy some strings while you are there I'm sure they would let you try it.

Unfortunately, I was out of town when I saw the Jaguarillo and did not have my Jaguar with me. No local music shops carry the Jaguarillo. I called Fender Customer Service and they did not have an answer. I can take a chance and order the arm only for $10, but they do not sell the collet seperately, so I would have to buy the entire trem unit for $60 if the arm did not work in my guitar.

I rebend and adjust almost every wang bar I own the exceptions being the plug-in AM Dlx Strat style that fits well stock. I have a shortened vintage Strat arm ala David Gilmore on one guitar.

If the bar is too long it can be cut down and rethreaded at the tip end if need be.

I have an Offset Special that has the thread-in Jag arm and tailpiece, same as the CP. I really like this MIM unit. It works quite well.

Stiffness can be a product of spring tension setting. You can tighten the screw for the tension spring and retune. This will raise the wang bar a bit too.
