With all the Martin threads going, including CG's epic tale, I finally got my rear in gear and took my 000-28EC to EM Shorts to have a K&K Pure Mini installed. I should have done it last year as the price went up $30! (No inflation, right JimmySee?). Anyway, Brian, the luthier @ EM Shorts will be calling soon to let me know it's ready. When I get asked to play out I always have to take the Yamaha or the J-45. Now I'll look normal to my Martin playing bluegrass friends!

Got it installed. Brian did a beautiful job. He checked my guitar out and said the setup was perfect. Got home and plugged into my Yamaha THR10C and knew I made the absolute right choice in about 10 seconds. No doubt K&K is at the very top of the heap!

Nice to hear. I've got one sitting in my studio waiting to go into my Hummingbird.

Don't have a tech locally and can't rake up the guts to drill it and glue it myself.

Never say never but I can't see amplifying my acoustics. I understand the K&K is a good way to go, however.

I have K&K in the D18GE. Way better than the Fishman in the other Martin.

I installed a K&K in a local FDPer's Taylor acoustic.

It all went together with no drilling necessary; the bottom strap button anchor was removable, so there was a 1/2" through-hole in the tail block, ready to accept the hollow jack pin.

K&K makes a great pickup system. The customer is very happy with the results.

All of my acoustics are now equipped with the K&K Pure Mini. Couldn't be happier!

I may replace the stock system in my Gibson J-45 with a K&K Pure Mini as well. It is so natural sounding!

I'm in the same boat as I'm seriously considering replacing my J-45 RW's the stock Fishman with a K&K Pure Mini. Besides sounding great, I like the fact that the K&K is passive, so goodbye battery changes.

That is a huge plus--no battery required.

And it gets better: unlike all other passive pickup systems that sound fantastic, the K&K requires no preamp or mojo box. Plug it straight into an amp or board and it sounds fantastic.

Can't agree more. I have one in my HD28 and it sounds great without any preamp. Leaves any other system I've had in the dust, and is a lot cheaper too.

I've done 6 K&K installs so far, all without a hitch. That includes my priceless (to me) old Guild and a HD28V that I've since sold; both of those jobs were nerve-wracking, as there is not much room for error when working with Super-Glue.

jhawkr is right about the price increase. I buy mine from Shoreline Music in Durango. I think I paid $65 for the first one, but $91 for the last one.

Well, after years of reading how great the K&K is I finally went ahead and ordered a set today. I'm going to install it in my Martin 00015M.

I only have Rivera-era Fender amps and it seems like people never play acoustics into regular amps, they either get a dedicated amp or go into the PA. Why is this?

Electric Guitar amps are not voiced for them.

I find no negatives at all from going straight into the PA. I can't find a single reason to haul around an acoustic amplifier.

The operation was a succes, but the surgeon barely survived!

I installed them yesterday and they sound pretty much as good I was hoping for. However, I had a few issues along they way. Drilling and glueing went fine up until the third pickup. As I checked alignment using an iPhone in place of a mirror I could tell the third pickup was misplaced. For a few seconds I was not very happy with myself, but I managed to get it off as there was puddle mixed in with the super glue. I then scraped off any residue with a razor blade and then even more carefully glued it back on, counting to 30 while thinking "Here goes nothing" or the 100$… Perfectly aligned, but would the pickup work?

I eagerly put on a new set of strings only to find out that the low E had the brilliance of a 30 year old flatwound rusty bass string. But this was unplugged, how could the not so lucky pickup affect the string like that? As I plugged it in I was expecting the E and A to sound like crap, but the A sounded just as good as the higher strings.

I put on the old E string and it turned out the new E-string was the worst dud in my 30 years of guitar playing. In fact I've only had one dud before this one, but the timing made this dud especially annoying.

So there, the guitar sounds very full through the Super Champ and I'm looking forward to playing it into a PA soon.

I will order another set of K&K Pure Mini for my other Martin, just after I've returned this dud from hell...

I did a K&K install recently on a friend's old Alvarez-Yairi, and mislocated the middle transducer through sheer carelessness on my part. Instead of being between the D and G strings, it was between the A and D strings.

Figured the guitar was no good, at least as an acoustic-electric.

But I proceeded with the install, and plugged it into my Genz-Benz Shenandoah, and it sounded terrific! I told my buddy that one transducer was "a bit off-center," but he was so thrilled by the sound that he didn't care.

I also slopped super glue on the top, but thanks to advice received here on the FDP, I was able to clean that up.

I've done 7 K&K installs now, and this last one was the only one that gave me trouble. But all's well that ends well- my friend gave me a nice old Cobra lob wedge that I had been eyeballing for my efforts.

I had a Pure Mini installed into my '75 Guild D55 by a local luthier. This combination does require more EQ than previous pups, it's pretty bass-heavy (not unlike the guitar). Once some high end is added and a little high-pass is dialed-in down low on a preamp It's a lovely, quackless acoustic sound. However I don't find it useable without a preamp as K&K has suggested - too muddy without one.
