I wasn't sure where to place this post because it's really an extension from Home Recording (that and the last post here at Rock-it 88 was over two months ago).
Total nube with Midi but I decided to get myself a keyboard controller to exploit all the freebie Virtual Instruments in Pro Tools. Pretty much plug and play but now I have a simple question with probably a not so simple answer;
I have the M-Audio Keystation 49es. It is connected to my PC Laptop via USB and functional.
I have (among other things) a folder of downloaded Wav samples from a vintage Mellotron. Pretty much all notes over the span of that keyboard.
Can I map my Keystation via midi to trigger those samples and play them like a virtual instrument?
Appreciate any thoughts.

There is a sampler program that comes with Pro Tools that should be able to do that but, I have never used it. It is called "Structure." I don't know which version of PT you are using but I'm pretty sure it comes as a stock plug-in with all versions after 8.0.
I use Native Instruments "Kontakt" sampler as my sample player and it will do what you need. So, I'm assuming Structure will as well.
GForce makes a Mellotron soft-synth called "M-Tron Pro" that is exactly what you need. It was about $150. That will save you a lot of aggravation, time, and effort, by not having to stumble through a lot of documentation in order to map the samples you have into a sampler program to be played from your MIDI controller. You can download M-Tron Pro directly from Sweetwater. You can thank me later. :o)
The M-tron Pro software can be used as a plug-in or as a stand-alone. It is the real-deal. It has all of the Mellotron tape libraries and it is also capable of loading 2 libraries at once. Well worth $150 if you like Mellotron sounds.
