New songwriter, first song. The words just spilled out while I was sitting at work due to the subject matter. I haven't figured out a melody but in my head I just hear your standard classic country ballad. I like many styles of music so maybe I should try other genres with it. Or should I stick with what's in my head?
Critique / comments welcome.. thank you!

Honey I just thought that I'd let you know
the dishwasher's been leaking again.
I guess I'll try to fix it tomorrow night
because we can't afford a new one just yet.

I think you know we're out of milk and butter,
can you pick it up on your way home.
And by the way, our anniversary's today
and I still love you like I did that day.

I know I promised to vaccum up the floors
on the weekend, and looks like I forgot.
I mowed the lawn, spent some time with our son
and played my guitar, I've been doin' that a lot .

I know you love to watch your TV shows,
in the evening when you've had a busy day.
And by the way, our anniversary's today
and I still love you like I did that day.

I remember it was 15 crazy years ago,
you were my lover, my friend and then my wife.
There was music and children and friends all gathered round
to celebrate our new start in life.
Since then we've been to heaven and to hell
and back again so many times I know.
But your love has kept us strong and together all along
so I wrote this song to try to let you know.

There are bills on the counter and the car is out of gas
but honey they can wait til I get paid
I know that life is busy sometimes,
our schedules never seem to be the same.

Our son needs something new for his lunchbox too
since he can't bring peanut butter anymore.

But your love has kept us strong and together all along
so I wrote this song to say I love you so.

And by the way, our anniversary's today
and I still love you like I did that day.

Stick with what's in your head at first. If that doesn't work then you can edit things later. I learned, a long time ago, to always trust my initial instincts.
