About a month ago, I picked up this 1956 M-3 that a guy my age had inherited some time ago and stuck in a storage unit. It was a little sluggish to start up, so I offered him $50, and the deal was done. I used an entire bottle of oil to loosen things up, and it sounds/looks great! My wife isn't so sure, however.... Here it is posing with my Baja Tele.

Here's my 11 year old tearing it up in the garage, right after I unloaded the thing from the van. You can hear the 14 year old at the end of her song yell at me from the house as she sees what I brought home. "WHY?!"

Why NOT, I say!!

Before I got the RT-3 I had a 61 M3. It was in fair cosmetic condition and 100% functional without any problems whatsoever. When I got the RT-3 I had to move the M3 out in order to have a place for the big guy. I tried to sell it for $100......no bites at all. Then I tried giving it away so it wouldn't get messed up sitting on my patio under the canopy. Still nothing. I tried donating it to 3 different churches......nothing. My cousin-in-law finally found a church that would take it so I happily delivered it to them.

It seems a real shame that a high quality instrument like that is probably going to go to the dump most of the time. They are great sounding organs. If I would have had the space I would have kept it. I carried it and a Leslie around as part of my on-stage keyboard rig for years. What a sound!

Those RT-3 consoles are big and heavy. I know because I have a 1951 RT-2 console with the HR40 tone cabinet.

Our church got an M3 donated and I spec'ed a speaker bypass kit that loads the internal amp. Installed that and run it through a GSi Burn. Sounds fantastic. If I had room at home I would snatch an M3 and set it up the same way.

All you need now is a Leslie. That makes them sound wonderful.

I can vouch that the GSi burn sounds as much as like a Leslie as you will ever need. Weight: about 3 pounds if my estimate is correct.
