I noticed their are a lot of other 62 AVRI Jazzmasters on sale on ebay. Are the 65 reissues that much better? The binding is nice.

Economy isn't great still, the demographic that bought them is getting older and culling the stable if they even play any more, and the younger ones who did are often the hipster-types for whom the Fender offsets have become a cliché.

I honestly don't think it has much if anything to do with the 65RIs.

A while back I picked up a J Mascis Squier because I never had an offset, wanted to satisfy that itch and it was a decent guitar. After that itch was scratched I realized that I just wasn't an offset guy, had to thin the herd for an impending move and found it expendable. I can see there being a lot of guys my age (with maybe a bit more income to afford the AVRI) who did the same. I can also agree with Rob that maybe the younger players finding them a bit cliché.

If I had the income and a worthy man cave I'd probably have one hanging on the wall, just in case the zombie apocalypse required offset retaliation.
