Anyone know where I can find information on why the decal is on top of the varnish and could possible peel off? Trying to sell my guitar and I wonder if I might have to explain that to someone without coming off like a fraud.

All decals originally applied by Fender, from the very beginning until the late 60's, I believe, were applied over the finish. Later, it was decided to put the logo under the finish for protection.

Your decal is completely original and you won't have to explain anything.
