My first and best Strat was a '57 I traded a guy a Firebird VII even up for in 1970. Foolishly sold a few years later to finance college tuition. "I can always find another one".....yeah, sure.

My first Strat was an early 70s 3 bolt neck big headstock that I bought in 82 used because I had some cash and had never owned a Strat. The first night that I played it on the gig, I thought "how have I ever played without this guitar?!" I wound up putting Diver Bomber resistance free saddles nut and string trees on it. I could whammy that guitar up till it stopped and press the bar down to the face and it always came back in tune. It played like it had a built in compressor. This was the guitar that they were going to screw me into the ground with. Until one night it was stolen out of the equipment van along with my acoustic guitar. I have spent 30 years trying to replace that guitar. My 92 American Standard Frankenstrat comes pretty darn close.

Just a shout out for the 70s Fenders.

I've just owned one, being a Gibson player all of my playing years. I have a '94 Am Std and have tweaked it to perfection, as far as I'm concerned. (Callaham Block, Rumplestiltskin pups, and my newly acquired Graph Tech Ratio tuners. Mine has a Maple fretboard and I've often wondered if I'd be happier with a Rosewood board. It never bothered me enough to go shopping for one, though.

I have a 50th Anniversary Strat Deluxe and it's really nice and I owned a great 1965 Strat, but my favorite has to be

A glorious collection of parts purchased separately and assembled into the gem pictured in the link below.

MIM body and neck. Better than the American Standards and Custom Shop models I have previously owned.

Custom wound Rumplestiltskin Pups are the icing on the cake.

My very first strat, an '88 Deluxe American with gold lace sensors. I never should have sold it.

My '93 with Fat 50's and a tremsetter is pretty close, however.

My 1966 strat. I use it for lessons and used to use if for gigs. It's a beast, owned since '93. Full, and woody sound. It has an old sound instantly and even when my door is shut, sometimes I get a knock asking what guitar/amp I'm using to get that "old sound". Pretty crazy but that's a blind test if there ever was one.

I had a custom shop thinline for a while, that I miss but never did justice to. I've had various American and Japanese others that were good but are not missed.

Overall my best strat is my current one. It's a 2004/5 MIM Custom 60s. Apart from buzzy machines, it's perfect.

My '64, it's the beefiest strat I've ever heard (some don't like that, but I do). It's rich and throaty, huge neck for a '60's, I've had it since late '94. Refin (a LONG time ago), changed guard, and 5-way all else is stock. Refret too, but hell I finished off the stock ones soon after I bought it.

Peegoo's Strat is gorgeous too. My God! Hey Peegoo, what's the story behind it?

The best Strat I've ever owned is whatever my most recent partoscaster is. Because that's the one that matches what I want in a guitar RIGHT NOW.

My 2002 American Series Strat is my #1 and is my best playing and sounding guitar. My Les Paul is a close second, but it is heavy and not as ergonomic as my Strat.

My MIM Jimmie Vaughan strat that I purchased new 16 months ago. I prefer it over my 1998/99 American Deluxe and another MIM strat. Don't get me wrong, the American Deluxe with lace sensors is a great guitar. I like the neck and the Tex-Mex pickups on the JV.

Best Strat I've owned is one that I put together myself.
A Warmoth body finished in "Desert Sunset", with a Fender Robert Cray Strat neck, a Callaham bridge, and a set of Fralin Vintage Hot pickups.

It's like my own "custom shop" creation...

Very nice MLC! It's great to hear of a "homebrew" guitar working out so well.

I can honestly say it is not my 95 AMSTD with maple, even if I have Van Zandt Vintage blues in it. It's one of those fighters that is just not much fun to play regardless of setup.

My favorite is an 07 MiM Strat in Arctic white, now going a bit yellow. It's bone stock, but with a rose board that is effortless to play, which I found astounding for a strat.

I have had a bunch of strats over the years , but my AVRI 59 thinskin in white blonde is the best I have ever owned. My wife bought it for me from Wildwood as a wedding present back in 2010 and I have never had a better playing , sounding strat as this.
