Had my eye on a new JM in shoreline gold on ebay, and was waiting to sell a PRS SE in order to buy.

Then it sold :-(

Come my 40th this week and it was my wife who bought it for me !

not only that she got me a mustang 3 amp too

the guitar is lovely only had a quick strum last night but it certainly looks the biz !

she's a keeper (and my wife as well)

Very cool story! The JM is a real looker. Do you get to keep the PRS? Hehe.

Both definitely keepers.

Superb guitars I have a 62 RI Jag, the 65 JM now, and also a related cousin the Toronado.

The offset shape makes them very comfortable to play and there is a wide palette of sounds.

Also check out the Mex and Japan made models if your budget is less

How does the 62RI compare to the 65 JM

I haven't done a proper A/B test yet but I def think the JM sounds mellower to my ears than the Jag, which is quite a lot brighter and has more attack in the sound.

maybe easier to play as well, could be the difference in scale I suppose !

also less controls to deal with.

also noticed on the JM that the bass strings dont jump out of the bridge like on the Jag

Will do a proper comparison when I get some time, here's my review on the Jag in the meantime

Nice guitar! Congrats. You'll enjoy that Mustang III when you start exploring it too.

"also noticed on the JM that the bass strings dont jump out of the bridge like on the Jag"

This is very fixable on the Jag. There is not enough string tension pushing downward on the bridge. Fender Offsets are famous for this set up "error".

If you shim the neck up slightly at the rear you will gain string angle over the bridge and increase the downward force. This will increase sustain a bit too. All part of getting one of these beauties right.

also the heavier gauge strings work well too. in fact i have to go get some today. i have been running with the sizes given in the pack that comes with the guitar but I am inclined with my next set up to go with a much heavier size (I like the beefy sound and don't bend too much).

Finally got round to taking some photos,

Also played her together with my Jag, they feel sound similar but have there differences, to be honest I think I prefer the simpler electronics in the JM, although you can obviously get more tonal variety in the Jag.

No mute is welcome.. just gets it the way, and the paint finish is def different, the older jag seems more slippery than the new flash coat finish.

Also has anyone noticed the round collar under the string tee in the new ones is plastic ?

The new case is also less wide than the one I got with Jag or my other RI Fenders.

Also the pups seem more aggressive on the Jag more bite with OD etc..
