I found a great deal on a NOS Larrivee C-10 - which is a florentine cutaway on their signature L body (slightly larger than a standard classical).

Evidently someone ordered this guitar then didn't go through with the deal for some reason... his/her loss, my gain! The dealer said it lists for $5,000 - I'm getting it for $1,750 (therefore I can't reveal dealer, etc.).

I do have a few pics in my profile...it's getting restrung for me, so strings are currently off.

Specs:
Italian Spruce top
Silver Oak (Grivella Robusta - Australian origin) b/s
Rosewood body trim
Abalone soundhole rosette and around the whole top
Ebony fretboard/bridge/headplate
One-piece mahogany neck / dovetail neck joint
Larrivee's 10-series fretboard and bridge inlays
1.75" nut
Bone nut/saddle
Label signed by Jean Larrivee

I should have this beauty in about two weeks.

Got the guitar - awesome - will give a full review later.

Meanwhile, there are several pics in my profile. I've tried to add a few more, but they're not there ... what's up with that?

LeftRightOut, here you go! Sorry for the delay!

This was a special order, but the owner just didn't like it, so it sat in the shop. It has an Italian Spruce top, Silver Oak back/sides, and it's stamped "C-10 Custom Shop" on the heel block inside, with the JCL logo above and the serial number below the "Custom Shop" stamp.

A few other specs:

Rosewood body binding
10 series abalone inlay (around top, special "10 series" fingerboard and bridge wing inlays
"JCL" labeled tuners
wood inlay backstrip

The guitar is gorgeous and excellent in every way. I thought the abalone inlay might feel like overkill to me, but it's actually pretty subtle from a few feet away, so I'm really starting to like it. I now have 3 of the four rosettes that Larrivee uses, original marquetry, herrinbone and now abalone.

The best way I can think of to describe the sound is "big, clear mahogany-like." The Larrivee 'L' body, even with a cutaway, has a lot more air moving around inside of it than my OM, and the notes are very "there" when you hit a string. The E string doesn't "boom" like a dread, it's more balanced, yet it still has power.

It has medium Elixer's on it - they sound fine, but my fingers are out of shape, so I put some D'Addario lights on it, and it didn't seem to lose any of it's volume or power. Sweet! I'm very happy with the sound both fingerstyle and strumming - very clear, articulate, warm and BIG.

It had the tortoise, Martin-style pickguard on it, which just doesn't look right on this body style, so I removed it right away - came off easily with a little heat from a hair dryer, and I removed the leftover adhesive with a micro-cloth and some Dunlop guitar spray - can't tell it was ever there...no shadow at all - don't think this guitar saw much sunlight (it is almost new).

The only 'flaw' I can find anywhere on this thing is that the backstrip isn't precisely centered where it meets the neck heel...not something anyone will ever see or notice. Everything else - build, woods, tone - wonderful! And the price - I paid $1,750 NOS for a guitar that lists for over $5,000.

Also, I've already ordered a pickup for it, an LR Baggs M1 Active L ('L' is for left-handed - couldn't believe they actually make a left-handed version of this pickup). But it gets rave reviews from a lot of players, which surprised me for a soundhole, magnetic pickup. The key is that it is active, and it senses the strings, but it also has built in sensors that sense the vibrations of the wood top; I've got to go listen to some demos on YouTube.

Two thumbs up - I'm very happy with this guitar - every time I pick it up, I'm so glad I was able to get it. I've wanted a C-body Larrivee for a looooong time!
