I'm currently playing clear pins on all of my toms. I love the sound, as does our sound guy. However, on the stage we play on, light shines right through all 3 of my rack toms. Not a problem currently as I'm using clear heads for the resos as well. However, I want to change out the clear resos with black and I'm thinking that the light might not look good trying to shine through the black heads? I know they make coated pinstripes but I've never tried them. Do they sound close to the clear's or, are they a different animal altogether? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The coateds will be slightly more damped and controlled than the clears... only by a gnats whisker though. Your sound guy will probably like them even more.
