"Sweetwater *just* shipped first day preorder to a guy I know who ordered a couple hours after I did (and I cancelled it literally 2 months to damn near the day ago when I got mine elsewhere)."

I got tired of waiting and had a 2012 MIJ shipped from Japan. It's a fun axe for sure. I have ordered a set of D'Addario XL157 strings and I'm going to try it strung up B-B as a baritone for a bit. It may be of more use to me this way.

Hey, whatever works.

If that's a long-scale baritone, go for it!

Okay, I have a theory. In several threads now I've heard about people ordering Bass VI's, Starcasters and such with the arrival dates pushed forwards more than one time. We know Rev has a Bass VI and he's said few are around so this leads me to a conclusion.

Fender released a limited amount to gauge response, drum up pre-orders, and basically see what the response is before going full bore into production.

I mean, c'mon! Why tease the hell out of Bass VI, Coronado and Starcaster fans for months before release, and possibly deflate expectations when they arrive, for no good reason.

Just my take. (As a guy who will be ordering a Bass VI in sunburst the MOMENT they're available).

If there's any plan afoot, it's to boost sales of the Pawn Shop VI in the frustrated short term.

I suspect there was a problem in the supply chain somewhere and it filtered down.

Keep in mind that Fender allegedly has the part number for VI strings in their system that's newish as well according to the rep I spoke with, and they're not out either.

They seem to be filtering out by the half dozen every now and again now, just nowhere near the demand.

Great take on the situation Rev. Still seems a little goofy to release the info on the Squier website and for all the major suppliers to follow along. Fender has to have had a supply issue as you pointed out.

They all ran with it because that was the date they were given, and Fender just kept pushing it back further and further.

Rather than announce "it'll be a few more months", the vendors played along.

Just won one in a raffle that no one seemed to be interested in. sun burst.... maybe i am wrong but i am getting it set up as we speak. it was from a smaller store that got squire stuff from another vender and this popped up in their store (back in december i think)... it was a president day raffle (for stuff i imagine didn't do well at christmas somewhere else).... anyway it will be loved at my home..... any takes on this? tips?

i have a vibro-king stack and don't want to get a bass amp. should i worry about playing it through that?

Whatever works for you, just play it and see what happens.

Guitar amp will be fine at lower volumes. Closed back cab I'd worry even less.

I got my squire vmbvi last night. i ordered a set of labella flat wounds and am teetering on replacing the bridge and vibrato system with with a mastery system. (i might be able to put it to use between the squire and my jaguar if i fall in love with it). can people give some reviews of mastery bridges? thanks

Mastery bridge: giant waste of money IMO.

If you must replace the stock bridge, Staytrem will do it for a fraction of the cost.

But there's nothing wrong with the stock bridge - adjust it, Loctite down, and save the two bills.

Played one of these today at my local dealer. In a word, it's awesome!

Ticky ticky, Witcita Lineman, Galveston, etc - those sounds are all hiding in there. The workmanship seemed very good. Nice, flexible switching.

I think it's a winner.

I took delivery of a sunburst Bass VI Thursday and though I haven't had time to play with it too much I have to agree with everybody so far. The fit and finish on mine is incredible for $350.

String question. Do they make various gauges for these yet? So far the only set I have run across specific for these, with bass gauge and guitar ball ends, are D'Addario XL156 Nickel Wound Bass VI, 24-84 and the Fender branded ones in the same gauge. I see there used to be Fenders in 25-95.

These days your best bet is to look up the gauges on strings in a set you might want (like the old Fender set), and make a custom set through Labella. It's a TON cheaper than buying their ready-made ones, I do not understand.

The lack of strings is confusing given the resurgence of these instruments, but I have no idea.

I'm still using the set mine came with and have a Labella custom stainless set for when they need to be swapped.

Some research has turned up a place bassstringsonline that has sets of La Bella Fender Bass VI - 6 String Stainless Steel Round Wound .026 .035 .044 .055 .075 .095 . Price is not bad too.

Another online seller shows GHS has a bass VI set coming soon but no gauges were given. There may be hope yet!

Yea, those are new. I was able to put together a custom set of that on Labella's site for around that, glad somebody there realized a bunch of us had.

Yea, for cheapies they might work. The high end is smaller than I'd like to be honest, even the light D'Addario 156s have 26 as the high e.

A wicked little tune
