" Their point is that gold will always have value and is accepted currency all over the world. "

Unless, however, during an economic calamity the goverment chooses to seize all gold. Then it's back to guns and trail mix.

I think they'll try seizing your guns before they try seizing your gold.

No one anywhere can possibly live well on the paltry amount provided in welfare and government so-called "safety net" benefits.

Try it yourself for a month or so and see how you do.

And *that's* the truth.

"wrecking my retirement dream of buying major Mr. T style bling"

Well, you could start with a Mr. T starter kit... you know, one of those plastic gold colored $ charms or whatever you call them on a chain.

Horse hockey. Most people receiving food stamps don't rely on it as their only source. I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen "poor" people buying $300 in groceries compared to my $75 and then loading them into their 2 year old Mercedes or BMW or Lexus.

And THAT is the truth!!!

$600-$700 in food stamps, rent assistance, free medical & dental for the kids, and a thousand or two on the side per month and you can "survive" pretty well. If you think people are not gaming the system you might be a bit naive.

"Why would a person who believes that cash out?"

It would require one to believe that gold market manipulators were simply using fear-of-US-dollar-crash tactics to drive up the price of gold, then when prices hit a specific threshold, the manipulators would dump it, having made hellacious profit. They could manipulate this cycle over and over again. Sell high, buy low.....price ramps up again with increasing economic chaos and fear....sell high, buy low.

At least, that's how I think all that stuff works.

There's a button right on that Idaho social services page to report abuse.

If you see it -- note the plate numbers on that auto and report it.

It's not just a handful of people abusing the system Jimmy. There is a whole culture of abuse and now they draw in unemployed for years and retired. And this doesn't count the millions in assistance from churches and charitable organizations. Here in Wichita you can get food stamps, get free food at the Wichita Food Bank, get free milk, cheese, peanut butter, etc from the Feds and then go to the Lord's Diner once a day for a free meal. Kids get free lunches year round. There is a whole cottage industry built around Food Stamps. You can sell your stamps for cash @ .50/1.00 or trade for drugs, swap for gasoline. I live in an old urban area surrounded by low income areas. I see this stuff everyday. And we're not even a large area by comparison to KC, Chicago, Denver, etc. How much worse is abuse there?

And that's not even counting the people with alias's. Claiming residents in 2 citys. Double the "income".

The cell phones really get me. There is a drunk who lives behind my store. He is a nice enough guy and I talk to him sometime. He lives in the bushes behind the alley and is not scary at all, just falling down drunk by ten in the morning. And, he has a phone. I see him sitting on a found chair in the shade and chatting with whoever as he passes his day in a stupor. The idea that this phone will help him get a job is laughable, as is the idea that it is only the lack of a phone that prevents anyone from obtaining employment.
But hey, we were talking about GOLD here (and I ain't got none).

On the plus side, if you become a falling down drunk you'll qualify for all that free stuff! Don't worry, the gubmint will just give it to you! The billionaires will pay for it!

The whole system has changed drastically over the years.

After I got a good job, I was married with just the one kid at the time, we couldn't even get a loan for an oak entertainment system, so we wait a few weeks and paid cash for one.
I was 33 years old and had been working for over a year, and still needed a co-signer for a car loan.

Fast forward 20+ years our Son at around 22, had a low paying job he had worked at for a few months, bought a used Subaru for around $10,000 never needed a co-signer?

A friend's Daughter had/has 2 jobs (one with health insurance) had a baby, but because she said "Father unknown" (she knew) it was paid for by the State! (the Father had a decent job (with health insurance too!).

None of this makes any sense to me, and "they" wonder why States are going broke.

No matter what system, there will be scammers. Medicare, Social Security, defense contracts, welfare, etc. Some 75 yr old woman was just arrested in a neighboring town for billing Medicaid $200 K over 6 years for supposed home health aids for her brother. So do you get rid of the whole thing, or step up fraud investigations? I'm sure the concept of in home care is cheaper than carting someone off to a home.

"So do you get rid of the whole thing, or step up fraud investigations?"

That's the million dollar question.

I talked to a woman last night who has never worked more than a minimum wage job, never been married, and has 7 kids. She goes on vacations to Vegas, Florida, and the Carribean at least 2-3 times a year. Doing pretty darn good, imo. Go figure:(

Edit to add: she wears gold, also. Just to stay on topic;-)
