Our band has given up the quest for a good, reliable keyboard player who doesn't want to be in nine other bands. We are taking a second guitar player instead and I've said I'll do some keys. I've done it in the past when the technology was much simpler but I'm struggling to identify a modern keyboard that can be programmed without an IT degree and used live without reading glasses. Is there a simple, preferably shorter scale, keyboard out there with just OK piano, electric piano, organ, clav, brass and strings sounds?

Good value on the new Korg boards even if you don't need all the features.

Thanks both. I do have a Korg X50 but find the manual hard to understand. Is there an easy way to save and recall presets I like?

I've got a Roland RS-5 that I live/hate. Presets go in pretty easy when you get the hang of it and it's light as ... well, you get the idea. mines weird though in that sometimes it starts running some form of lfo in the background of EVERYTHING an dit all sounds like trem. I can usually get it to stop but it is unnerving when it pops up in the middle of a set. On the other hand, the sounds are pretty darned good for a reasonable priced synth. Even the B sounds are OK. Primarily a guitar player/bass player but I do keys, horn parts, and even a couple pretty piano things. Oh-that IS one thing that it DOESN'T do well-piano. It stinks. I midi out to a dedicated piano module that I bought for cheap and use THAT for real pianny. Mike.

I've managed to programme the Korg X50 by ignoring the manual and finding some instructions on the interwebs. I've now got it set up for easy recall of grand piano, electric piano, strings, horns, clavinet, rock organ and two types of lead synth.I've renamed the presets in capitals and can read them on the tiny LED screen even in gig conditions.

It sounds pretty convincing and will certainly add some colours to our new two guitar lineup. Thanks for the suggestions.
