There is a great guistarist in my town Nick Carangi who recommended the Rickenbacker 330. Anyone have experience with the model or the general brand? What is a good price $1,800 for a used one? Please share.

I like Rickenbackers, but don't play them as often as I use to. I've owned seven over the years, but now I have only three, one six string, one twelve string, and an acoustic.
My six string is a 1997, which is basically a 330 with an F hole instead of the more common slash hole. While some folks may say that a Ric is a one trick pony, I've never bought into that idea. I've used mine for rock, country, and blues.
If you want to be different from the rest of the herd, get yourself a Ric. Finding a lefty may be hard, but they're out there. Rickenbacker recently started producing leftys again after about 8 or 9 years of not producing 'em.
