Actually, I did this a couple of years ago. It still has the scratch vocal and the drums were just the sequences I did so I could do all of the overdubs. I had a friend who was going to record real drums on it, which it needs terribly, but he flaked out. Imagine that....a flakey drummer. Who wudda thought? :-P I never re-did the vocal because I wanted to have the drums on it first.

Thanks. I'm glad you like it.

I have a bunch of them. This one's a bit mellower.

ninworks- "Hurt Me" sounds very professional. Good song! Like the guitar solo, too, and the transition to acoustic guitar strumming.

"The Wish" is beautiful. Thanks for posting it.

Of course, I can't not think of "If" by Bread, but yours is its own creation.

I love the vocals on The Wish - can you let me know what the effects path is on the lead vocal on that one?

Thx!

I recorded that song about 10 years ago. I used Cool Edit Pro (CEP) for my DAW. It used the old Direct-X plug-in format.

For the lead vocal I used a Neumann U89 mic, plugged into an old Mackie CR1604 mixer, direct into an old ECHO Audio, GINA 20, audio interface. I recorded that song at 16 Bit, 44.1kHz. I used no compression or EQ going into CEP. The only signal that went onto the track was the U89 and the Mackie onto a mono track.

At mixdown I added an Ultrafunk FX reverb, and two instances of an Ultrafunk Dynamic EQ, plug-in.

The first instance of the Dynamic EQ plug-in was used as a hi-pass filter to remove some of the low end information from the track. The second instance of it was to add a little sparkle, or presence, somewhere around 6kHz and 8kHz, to the top end on the track.

For the reverb settings it was pretty basic. I filtered out everything below 75Hz and everything above 8.6kHz. I added 89ms of pre-delay to the reverb. There were some other settings that were tweaked a bit as far as cross-over frequency and some others. It had a 1.9 second decay time. Other than that is was just about setting the level to suit my taste.

I ended up using no compression at all on the lead vocal track but did use some on the background vocals.

Here are just the processed vocal tracks. I edited out the empty spaces where the instrumental sections were.
