What you'll do with your lefty guitars when you leave this mortal coil?

I have three kids who play some guitar, with my son actually catching up and surpassing me, but they all play righty (thankfully, for their sake!).

If I knew some other lefty players who were serious about it and growing as musicians, I have a couple guitars I would be happy to pass on for free right now. But later ... I'm not sure what my kids will have to do with these things! Sell them and buy some right-handed ones, I guess.

That's a very interesting question! I've whittled my meager collection down to four, and the only one of any value is my 1990 Les Paul Standard. I tell people, half-kidding, that I want to be buried with it. The rest aren't really worth enough to worry about.

too many guitars and not enough hands

well i've thought about this too

since i dont have any kids yet . ( if i do i'm gunna get the cane out and whack um if they're not left handed until they do everything right , left handed that is ;0 )

but worse comes to worse one of cousins who is about 8 is interested in my metal body dobro and my mando, always wants to strum it when the family visits

so i may gift it to her not much to flip the bridge and new nut on them since they were irignally righties

the others well could always donate to junior music program for disadvantage kids

I've given thought to the issue. I have a nephew who graduates next week with his degree in Music Management and he will get my gear. He'll probably sell the guitars, but he's smart enough not flood the market by selling them all at once.

"the others well could always donate to junior music program for disadvantage kids"

We are disadvantaged, aren't we? They didn't have special programs for us disadvantaged lefties when I was a kid though...

...actually, a righty guitar playing friend of mine keeps telling me I'm brain damaged/have a birth defect (changes back and forth depending on the day...). I prefer the term disadvantaged.

Sorry, hijacked my own thread!

Hey Rev your right

but in the end i've at present i've got 20 lefty guitars sure my family could sell a few of the highenders off,

but the low end models might as well give it to some kids that might just be the next Hendrix, Springsteen or whatever,

there are few music initiatives now for indigenous children in outback australia and i'm sure there are some leftys out there - and the aboriginals of Australia have gotten the short end of the stick in the past and hell i cant take it with me ;(

A few years back, I tried to donate one of my guitars to a local music program. The organization actually denied to accept the guitar.
