FDP Forum / Guild/DeArmond/Tacoma Guitars / Starfire III Tips?

Feb 20th, 2013 02:27 PM   Edit   Profile

I get more and more excited at the thought of the Guild Starfire III by the day.

But it seems to me that there are 3 different types - old 60's-70's ones... 90's ones... and now 2013 reissues!!

What's the difference?
Anyone got any thoughts on quality/vibe?
Which would you look for?

I have a 1960 SFIII with the Dearmond single coils. The tone is glorious. Scale is 24.75 on the neck, frets are vintage, and radious I assume is 7.25, and has a single cutaway. All these are not particularly desireable on a modern guitar. BUT, it is light, oh so toneful, and looks great. Nice addition to the collection. Full hollow-body too so it can squeel like a poked pig. So playing in a loud setting can be a bit exciting. Can't speak to the newer models.
