FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Jaguars & Jazzmasters / Jaguarillo, anyone?

We got great big

Feb 3rd, 2013 05:42 PM   Edit   Profile

Just picked up an MF blem for about three bills less than street.

Had a Pawn Shop '72 I liked, so I am eager for this.

Is there anybody out there?

Jag/Jazzmaster forum probably would have more interest, although it's AOK here too.

Can't post pics, but I'll give a mini-review.

I had a sea foam Pawn Shop 72, which I loved. It was MIJ and fit and finish were excellent. However, it only had a tone, and I couldn't get a spanky enough tone for the band I was using it for, so I traded it.

The blue Jaguarillo was a blem (bash in forearm cutout) but otherwise excellent fit and finish for a MIM. Needed high-gauge strings (10-46) for the short scale, and a neck adjust, but everything else was spot on.

Atomic humbucker does great bright cleans and gritty crunch. Had one on an original Cyclone I used to own, and loved it. This is rounded out with two Strat pickups, so basically a short-scale Strat.

Am using it for a gig tonight, ironically in a crunchy band, not for spankyness. I'll let you know.

Interested to hear how it sounds/holds up at band volumes!

RR-It did well last evening. Mostly used the humbucker, but the middle pickup was great with some chorus for an "acoustic-y" sound. It is lighter than the Schecter Vintage Solo which I had been using for that band. I will keep them both and trade off between the two for various gigs

I just looked at my earlier post, and I lied: the '72 had NO tone, only a volume and a rotary for the pickups to blend.

I absolutely LOVE the neck on these things. Sadly, I'm not bright enough to figure out exactly which Fender shape it is, but it IS comfortable.

Nice, we're living an era when Fender + bucker does not mean an automatic swap. I assumed I'd slam them out on my Jaguar HH too, after a couple years I'm considering buying a backup set cheap just in case!

I'd want one of these if I didn't absolutely hate F holes, hate how they feel where I rest my hand most of the time.
