There used to be a lot of discussion on this topic.
In fact, the threads in this Forum guided my purchases.

There is not much new in terms of EC CS models. We can speculate about what color EC will go to next.

We can also discuss any interesting new/used CS EC Strats that appear on eBay or in stores. Pricing is an important topic also.

LOL

Works for me! I'm still sort of on the look out for a EC gray CS model. Among other colors as well...

An FDP CM offerred me an EC Grey, before he put it in the classifieds/eBay. But, I just couldn't pull the trigger. I am gambling that EC will go back to black/flamed, and I will be sitting pretty :-).

Har!

Actually, I want a gray/flamed one (which he never actually played), and a two-tone sunburst, non-flamed one.

His Grey, or at least one of them may have a very light flame.

Yeah, but I'm talking more like the old original heavily flamed pewter version. It's funny, as much as I love a good flame neck (and I have a few!), flame on a SB strat just looks wrong.

Got it.

Right, flame on a SB does not work for me either.

I have a 2006 Team built Clapton in Mercedes Blue with a flame neck . Great guitar. I always wanted that Hyde park guitar from the moment I watched the concert.I even contemplated switching out the the vintage noiseless for lace sensors to get that true look/sound. I just don't have it in me to start messing with an original custom shop guitar.

However, these past few months I have been wanting a black Clapton with a flame neck. There is just something true about Clapton and a black strat.

I have never been a fan of the peweter or EC Gray. I would love to see a two tone Clapton . I have a 56 NOS Strat as well and requested that it have a flame neck but was told by my dealer that it wasn't an option. I was told that if I wanted it to be a flame neck than it would have to be a masterbuilt. They called Fender at the time and were told this directly. I found it very strange as the year pervious when I bought the Clapton I was offered different levels of flame options at different price points. Given that both were team built guitars and the fact that there were plently of 56 NOS out there with flame necks it didn't make any sense at all. In the end I did settle for the plain neck .Looking back I'm happy that the 56 now has a plain neck but it would also look nice with a flame neck like my Clapton.

Hi dave1-

I seem to remember you from the old EC thread!

Well, after years of CS EC ownership, I think that I am favoring my plain neck CS ECs as far as "player guitars". Of course the flamed neck versions look better. The flamed neck versions have a more refined feel, but at least for this week :-), I like the more conventional feel of the plain neck. Maybe the flamed necks are a little bit harder maple? They feel more sophisticated, but a bit "glassier" also.

I can see a Black Clapton with a flame neck in my near future for sure. It would be amazing if they issued a Crash 1 replica. That was the guitar he was using when I got to see him for the first time. I think many would line up if the custom shop issued a copy of Crash 1.

I was big fan of the Daphne blue limited issue as well. The plain pale neck fit that guitar perfect.

I had the opportunity to score a used Daphne, but I couldn't pull the trigger. That color works for EC, but at the corner bar where I jam..."not so much".

I modded a daphne blue 50's RI (MIM) with Clapton electronics. It works in a pinch, but the neck is a good bit different. That one is brighter than my real EC's too.

I will be getting my second custom Clapton next week. It's an Olympic White team built with a light flame neck. I always wanted the "From the Cradle" strat . In my opinion Clapton was at his very best during the time when he was using the White and Mercedes blue Strats.

Regarding street prices, I have 5 CS TB ECs. I paid $1800 for a plain neck new and $2100 for flamed neck new in 2005 up to 2007.
I see them advertised for double these days! What are people paying new these days for a CS TB EC these days?

I se them at around 3500 a lot. I suspect you can get them a bit cheaper. Used ones can be usually a good bit cheaper.

Wow 3.5K street price or list? Remember the "minimal advertised pricing" that was enacted a while back?

Well, that's the "advertized" price I reckon. The only one I bought lately was about a year and a half ago at Wildwood. They had one that was a grand less than the others (they had three black w/ flamed necks). Apparently Fender let's them sell occasional guitars as "used" even though they are brand new.
