Hi,

I'm just curious to know if anyone has seen, touched, bought, etc., one of these, and what your thoughts and impressions might be? I've been out of the loop for a long time, and I can't remember the last time I saw a lefty Mustang!

Link From Sweetwater:

Edited to add:

Ah, I see. Made in Japan. They've probably done it before on other occasions, but this is the first time I've seen Fender release a Lefty version of the Mustang here. But then, as I said, been out of the loop for a while. Wish they would issue a lefty Musicmaster or Duosonic!

Probably the first lefty here, since the originals, or certainly not in the 2000's.

In the link, there is a unique neckplate on that one. Maybe all MIJ instruments have that now, but it is the first time I have seen it.

New MIJ neckplate?

Just about the time I think I'm done buying. ;-) I'm tempted to convince myself for "Just One More"
It sure is a looker.....Youtube has some good clips of this model. I'm gonna email my trusted dealer about acquiring one.
I've in passing glanced at these, but until you brought them to my attention here, have not given much thought about them.

I know what you mean! For years I've watched as people snagged the occasional Lefty MIJ Mustang, Jaguar, Jazzmaster off ebay. And now an actual Fender Mustang issue! And in two of my favorite colors!

Yes, (to previous post by LeftRightOut), I'd love to see a nice, reasonably priced American made lefty Jaguar and Jazzmaster; this Mustang and the Cobain Jaguar don't do anything for me (what's the point of putting humbuckers in it?).

Maybe someday I'll find a nice lefty Japanese Jaguar (my daughter lives in Japan).

We picked one of the sonic blue ones up, nice enough guitar. Couple little things make me scratch my head. i have a good photo of the one in the R&R HOF, and assume it's got a good trail to Kurt.

That being said, the reissue comes with black slider switches, the ones in the HOF guitar are white. I ordered the white slider switches from Fender, should be an easy swap.

The HOF guitar also has the small "offset contour body" decal on the headstock, and the reissue does not. I got a decal, so I'm good.

There's no manual or switch guide, and this guitar is not standard wired like a normal Mustang. I called, and was told to download the manual for the Jag-Stang

Again, nice guitar, but why does Fender drop the ball on little details?

"And in two of my favorite colors!"

Joke?

I'm one who can't really warm up to this, but that's probably due to never being a Cobain/Nirvana fan (am I too old at 54?).

The point I was trying to make was/is that for the first time in recent EVER THAT I KNOW OF, Fender USA has Lefty Fender Mustangs for sale.

Sadly, they are these mutant Kurt Cobain model. And I had no idea who he was until I joined this forum years ago.

And yes, sonic blue and fiesta red happen to be two of my favorite colors.

Thanks for pointing these out, LeftRightOut! I'm curious if they would ship to the US. I remember, way back, looking through the Taniguchi-gakki pics, and drooling, but I don't think they shipped here, so it was Ishibashi UBox, or ebay. Am I remembering wrong about this??

Thanks Again, LeftRightOut! I'm going to send an email and ask! Looking at the Fender Japan site, it seems all they make in Left-handed anymore is the Kurt Cobain Model Mustangs. So the ones at Taniguchi could go fast...

Edited to add: all they make Left-handed in the Mustang/Jaguar/Jazzmaster line...

The exchange rates put them very near the cost of of the Cobain's here. Add shipping and insurance, so a tad more, but without the "extras" of the Cobain model. Very tempting! Now to hear back if they ship to the US.

Thanks Again, LeftRightOut!

Fun looking at stuff on their site. Love their '57 Vintage Strat in Fiesta Red! Also would love a Jaguar in either Vintage White or Sunburst. Prices aren't too bad - as long as shipping isn't more than around $125-150.

Got this reply back from Taniguchi this morning!:

"Dear Customer

Thank you very much for your interest and enquiry on our product.

Of course,
I can ships to USA. (by EMS)

Please provide below mentioned details for further processing.
Your interest of product:
Name:
ZIP Code:
Postal Address:
Contact Phone/Mobile No.:

As soon as we receive the above details,
we will revert back to you with total amount charged including postal and insurance cost.

Regards,
Hiroshi Iwata (Taniguchi musical instruments Ltd.)"

So, if the "postal and insurance cost" fall anywhere in the ballpark, it may finally be time to go after one of their Mustangs or Jaguars! I will reply to them, but also do a little googling of EMS, to try and get an idea of prices...

Keep us posted on the shipping costs (and are there customs on stuff from Japan to the US?).

Shipping and insurance is 12000 yen, or approx. $150. So, total cost for the Mustang would be 89,280 yen, or approx. $1122. I'm thinking about trying to deal by letting them know we can get the Cobain model cheaper here, and will they match price (I doubt it). I will post results, if I do this.
