I always loved this song by "? and the Mysterians".

And I LOVE the semi-cheesy sound of the keyboard being used! Can anyone tell me what it is?

Great link. Thanks for posting!

SO... I guess it's still a mystery as to what was really used on the song when it was recorded...?

Another wonderful "cheesy" sounding organ I LOVE is the one used by The Animals on "House of the Rising Sun". I consider that keyboard solo to be the best in R&R history. It starts at 1:40 in the link below where Alan Price is playing a VOX.

Who can tell me if the recording was done with the same VOX or one like it?

Eh.

After years of fiddling with organs, I've found that I can get a crappy sound out of almost anything.

It looks like "Alan Price performed the solo on a Vox Continental."

Can't answer your question on the keyboard, but what a GREAT tone!

That song is my all-time fav slow song.

I’ve got a couple of Korg and Roland keyboard synths, and the funny thing is: They all have multiple patches named after these classic sounds, but they don’t give a single clue as to the original instrument name! One really has to be a student of this genre in order to understand the nomenclature.

"That song is my all-time fav slow song."

I'd put it in my top 3 with 'Whiter Shade of Pale" and "Whiskey Lullabye."

I just picked up a Farfisa organ model fast 2. In researching this organ I found a Farfisa web site which indicated that "96 Tears" was played on a Farfisa.

I still have a Farfisa Compact Mini that our church was throwing away. It has a slight phantom note that plays all the time but it is fun to play with.
It sounds good though a Leslie.
