I read somewhere that the Gibson company has finally succeeded in killing the Slingerland name.

Is this true? I also heard that there might be some other parties interested in taking over the Slingerland name with the aim of reviving the brand. Is there any truth to this as well?

As I understand it, the Gibson company bought the name, had most of the products were made here in the US, and then the did nothing to promote the line, and then I heard they just wanted to kill the line. I mean Levon Helm played them as did others. If this is all true, why do it. So much for loyalty to one of Gibson's own subsidiaries.

I hadn't heard about this but hope it's not true. Hopefully others will chime in on this one.

I just picked up a beautiful set of 1964 Slingerland Radio King's finished in Gold Flame Pearl for our bandroom practice kit. Awesome sounding and looking drums!! I hope Gibson doesn't kill such a legacy. But then GM killed Pontiac over Buick so who knows...

“hope it's not true.”

+1. Classic look, classic sound. And if you’d like to see ‘em in action, here’s a holiday gift-to-yourself recommendation from FDP sponsor Amazon.com:
