I've always considered Roger the "Secret Weapon" of Queen.

We all know how larger than life and over the top Freddy is as the consumate frontman, and we know Brian to be one of the top g...uitarists, due to tone and taste, but Roger is a total powerhouse, as well as bringing much articulation to the dance.

He's the guy that covers the high tenor range in the vocals, and as evidenced in this video, and his work on the floor toms gives that lower end drive.

I also like the hell out of the way he damps the cymbals after he hits them.

I learned that trick years ago, and recollect doing that on Jeff' Alamed's second kit in the notorious Southwick road trip / Pool passout many years ago !

Thanks for the link! That was a great clip that I had not seen before. No res heads on the tom's, now those were the good ole days! I agree, that Roger is underrated. I totally love his drumming and his singing ain't bad either!

After recently seeing the Queen concert at Wembley in 1981 (I think) I'd have to agree. That guy can play. And he was the force in the background vocals.

I didn't know FM was as good a musician as he was either. Great piano.
