I was messing with the action and such this morning and have a question and an observation. Its always been a little buzzy, but not bad by any means and good tone, and I wanted to lower the action but add more relief.

Q: is the truss rod bidirectional? I can only get a small amount of relief set neutral with 10s, and going further left it gains tension, but don't wan't to go further unless it is supposed to. It sat in the store a year with 11s, so that didn't pull the the neck concave much if at all.

Observation: Dan Erlwine's book lists action on a number of famous guitars. I noticed the Gretsch and similar guitars have quite low action and 10s. Or maybe I just tend to pick harder than necessary on hollow bodies. I was amused at Setzer's tech who said he prefers a "high" , country style action, then looking at 2mm action. I am used to at least 2.5mm, and closer to 3 on the Fenders. I usually think of 3.5 as high.

Well, it seems like it does get enough relief, just a little slower than I'd planned to acclimate to a change in the truss rod. Driving to the left a bit more really helped, and a 2-2.25mm action works for this setup. Would like to understand if it is biflex rod though.
