I've bought 2 CS Teles in the last 16 years, one being a '99 Nocaster NOS. They are two of the most used guitars I own. They can do it all.

I bought the guitar on last Monday July 30th 2012. On Friday I received an email about a 48 hour 12% off any one item and they price adjusted for me! Got $433 back. Definite benefit of shopping with large stores. I definitely got lucky though that they had this guitar in stock for me to try before buying. Most cases its online ordering only for these types of guitars which is a definite NoNo for me.

They are just so good that I've got two!
One of the best guitars to come out of the Custom Shop, IMO!

Hard to believe that my 2001 Nocaster is already 11 years old. Still going strong.
Now that I'm actually playing in a band again she will see much more stage time.

The NoCasters are special guitars for sure!
Don't give up on a trem bar though. I had a STETSBAR tremolo system installed on my Tele and it is FANTASTIC. A beautifully engineered piece, it's like having power steering on a car.
Also, the STETSBAR requires no new holes to be drilled. If you ever wanted to go back to stock (you won't), no problem. Also, there is a definite increase in sustain with the STETSBAR in place.
Not a cheap system to buy, but worth every single penny IMO.

Best guitar Fender has ever made, IMHO. Mine's an '08. I'm having sticker shock seeing the prices the CS is charging for these now.
Mine was setup perfectly right out of the box. I've never adjusted anything on it. Never had that happen on any guitar I've ever owned. The sound is just fantastic, best I've ever had, can play anything I want on it.

My Fender Custom Shop "Vintage Telecaster Relic" has a Seymour Duncan '59 SH-1 in the neck position and a '51 Nocaster pickup in the bridge position. I have a lot of great guitars, but this is my favorite. Don't know how similar it is to yours, but here is a video of me playing mine:

Nice chime and power cords out of that guitar. What amp were you playing thru?
The Drummer was great also.

So comparing that guitar to a Tele with traditional tele pups, what would I notice? Better pinch harmonics, more growl.
I can get similar sounds is why I ask.

Umm...Nocaster!
I have a 2007 and like the majority above as soon as I played it it was a keeper.
My only change has been a new control plate with a 4 way switch and no load tone pot.
Many come and go but not this one.

Just took the plunge and put in the modern switching on mine. Just great so far. Thought about the no load tone pot, but thought it might interfere with Gatton style tone swells, as it would stick a bit when wide open. This guitar just sounds great.

I'm late to this thread but just wanted to chime in on my 2003 Nocaster Closet Classic.
It's a great guitar and I haven't changed a thing on it. If I had to downsize my assortment of gear, this would probably be the last one to go.

Mine is really my no. 1. I was hesitant to change the wiring, but it sounds really good and gives me a lot more flexibility. If i had to downsize, this one would be a keeper. I was playing it straight though my DRRI today, no pedals. Just great pure tele tone, better than anything.

Well I have played quite a few Teles of various stripes. I have a 1981 Black and Gold that I keep in the closet and it has a traditional Tele tone I think. Interesting guitar but a bit heavy. I used to have a Lite Ash Tele and it was decent. I had a Muddy Waters Tele which was OK as well. I have also had and parted with an anniversary Tele, a 8502 Tele (?), a Nashville Tele, a Baja Tele, a Highway One Texas Tele (first with Nocaster pups and then with Don Mare Hayrides), and a custom made 62 double bound Tele with a b bender and with Fralin pups. Still have the custom made b bender, the 1981 B&G, a Nocaster, and a newly acquired 2009 model Road Worn blonde Tele with Dimarzio Twang Kings and brass saddles and black bakelite pickguard.
The Nocaster is a keeper. It has the Nocaster pups (2009 model) and it is in a rare violin burst finish. It and another one had been in a local shop. The two were on the wall for over a year, close to two years. Finally the other one sold and they were down to just this one. I kept eyeing it with envy, tried it but couldn't get the guts to pay the $2500 it had been marked down to. Then one day I go in and it is gone! They apparently sent it to another store in another state where a customer was interested. I guess the guy never came in to check it out so they sent it back. In the meantime they had lost the thermometer case and the COA. I am going to replace the COA for a cost of $75 but they provided another custom shop case (with the brown tolex) and sold it to me for a very good price ($2000). So that is how I got my Nocaster. I have toyed with the idea of putting Don Mare Hayride pups in it because those were the best Tele pups I have ever heard.
I play my guitars primarily through a 1975 Princeton Reverb (relocated to a custom made cherry wood cabinet) or a Goodsell 17 watt amp with a Celestion speaker (EL84 tubes). Both amps sound great with all my guitars but there is something about a Tele through a Princeton Reverb that is almost magical!

PS-
My Nocaster has the relic treatment which is an upcharge of about $400 I think on the regular Nocaster.

I don't own a '51 Nocaster but I was lucky enough to score a used set of '51 Nocaster pickups for something like $75.00 last year, still in the original box and everything.
I put them in a mid-90s Peavey Reactor telecaster and boy did that wake up this guitar! The original Peavey pickups weren't the best, I especially didn't like how bassy the neck pickup was on this thing.
Love these pickups! Can't go wrong IMHO.

Had mine since Feb. '01, ordered it in summer of '00, so not sure where the serial no. dates it.
It's an incredible axe. Mine is team-built one-off with huge frets, and all the finish off the neck back, and a super-lightweight body.
It's extremely loud acoustically, and just screams through the amp, and the neck pickup is the big secret weapon. It's very sweet clean, yet throaty when driven. We all know about the bridge pickup.
I bought it because I wanted a tele, and I probably play it more than any other guitar I own.

I had been a longtime fan of the '52 design and own a '98 AVRI (just an excellent player's instrument) and a '14 CS '52 Relic with a Seymour Duncan humbucker at the neck. I had always been afraid of the U neck, but took the plunge on a used '99 NOS Nocaster at a very fair price and liked that so much that I bought an '08 Nocaster Relic. Unlike many, I do like the blend switching (as long as the other ones have modern 3-way) and my medium-sized hands adjusted to the neck; however, I find that I must first decide whether to play C-neck or U-neck on any given session. 7.25" and vintage frets all the way!
I am happy to hear that the Nocaster is no longer a production instrument-- These are special and this makes mine even more special.
