I played a TR at EM Shorts today. It was the best playing guitar I have ever held in my hands. $1875. Can't do about it until November. Such a sweet, sweet player!

Isn't that a nice feeling, to be able to play something that feels so good

I own a 2003 6119 TR and having also owned a '64 6120 that I stupidly sold back in '80, also find the new 6119 to be a great feeling and great playing guitar.

I gigged with a 2003 6119TR for several years and really enjoyed it.

One thing I did that really improved the tone was install a set of TV JONES Magna'Tron pickups.

Highly recommended!

If the 6119-1962HT that I played is still there in November, it'll likely be mine!

I was looking at the various G6119 models offered, including this one, which seems to be the most period-correct, similar to the one George Harrison played.

How are the Hilo'Tron pickups? I believe they are single coil, so are they closer to DynaSonic than Filter'Trons?

Hilo-Trons were developed as a replacement for DeArmond pups and are pretty similar. They can be bright without being ice-picky. I don't think lows are all that great and Magna Trons might be a little stronger in that regard as 6L6 recommends.

Just saw Bill Shanley use this model with Ray Davies and his backing band, the 88. Awesome player and tone. Hope it's there for you in November.

Last winter I got my first ever Gretsch guitar, a 6120 -1959LTV. Always wanted a Gretsch and no regrets whatever. Very unique tone. I love it for rock/rockabilly.

I went back and saw the same 6119-1962HT @ EM Shorts today. It still played and sounded great but has seen a little "shop wear". Nothing really bad but not as pristine as it was. If they accepted Amex I might have brought it home today as I have the next 18 months @ zero interest. I love using other peoples money for free. Anyway, I may pull the trigger and order an un-messed-with-one from Musician's Friend. I'll sleep on it. I really want that Gretsch!

The last guitar I bought was a 6122-JR. If I can ever scratch together enough bread for another, it'll be a 6119-HT.

I decided to hold off on the 6119 for now. It's still on my gotta-have-it list but I need to unload a few lessor guitars as I am just out of room in my man-cave.
