I bought this guitar in 1984 and it was my #1 axe for a long time.
The neck date is 5-25-82. I've been looking for years and haven't seen one with an earlier date on it. It has to be from the first batch.
The serial number on the neck plate is V0028## and I have seen ones with later dates and lower serial numbers which is not unusual since Fender pulled the neck plates out of a bin randomly.

Since it's a vintage RI, shouldn't Fender consider a RI of the RI series?

Very nice...check out the site below.
The earliest '62RI they've seen has a serial number of V000466 with a neck date of 6-18-82. Pots stamped the 6th week of 1982.

A beauty! I wonder how, in terms of quality, a modern 2012 FMIC '62 RI can be compared to the Corona era '62 RI ?

My Telecaster celebrates it's 54th birthday this month. The neck date is 5-58, and my Dad bought it for me in 1970 for $125.
Happy guitar birthdays!

Wow. Nice flamey neck there. Happy Birthday to the old gal.
Hows the finish settling in on that guitar? My AV62 is just a baby at 12 years old. But it seems to be settling nicely.
