Obvious attempt at deception. Why is part of the sticker gone, but the finish underneath is perfect, and the sticker edges are rounded off. Avoid.

The owner said it's a "Fender Standard Gold Edition CBS Strat".
Here's a pic that the guy sent me...

Is there an empty/bare hole at the head for the truss rod adjuster? (I think that's what I'm seeing.)
No US, MIM, or MIJ Fender Strat neck is like that. Some Squiers and low-end aftermarket necks have empty/bare holes. (On MIMs it's possible to pull out the plastic trim cylinder to leave a bare hole, and on US Bi-Flex necks it's possible to drill out the walnut cylinder -- that's sometimes necessary for truss rod repairs and you don't have to replace the walnut cylinder after the repair.)
The bridge is absolutely not the American Vintage Reissue bridge not the Mexican Classic/Deluxe bridge. It could be a MIM Standard with replacement saddles or maybe some MIJ bridge, but it looks Squier-ish to me.
I can't say one way or the other about the body. Maybe with pics of the back, the trem cavity, and the pickup/control cavities.
The pickguard and knobs look a little "Asian copy" to me but it's hard to tell from just those two pics.
As said previously, the decal is a bad copy.
Looking at your profile I wouldn't trade any of your listed guitars, basses, or amps unless he was going to throw in some cash along with the partsocaster/copy/whatever it is. Maybe a couple of your pedals would be a fair trade.
(If it has some expensive set of boutique pickups that might possibly increase its desireablity.)

Run.
If the thing is this fake (and the description of a "Gold edition CBS Strat" sounds equally bogus) - run.
Best thing you get is a nice-playing partsocaster with dubious resale.
Unless you're trading a $20 toaster for it or something.

Agreed. At the most I might trade him an Agile LP clone that I have.

After further research, I'm pretty sure that this is a Squier Affinity. Although the owner claims it has a full-thickness body....but he also said it was a U.S.A. Strat.

Update....it actually does have a full thickness body. I measured it with my dial calipers.

Actually, it is a full-thickness body (I measured it with dial calipers), so maybe not an Affinity (supposedly some older Affinities were full-thickness). I don't think the neck is original, because the tuners are chrome, all the other hardware, including neck plate, trem, etc. are gold. Some kind of special edition gold-on-gold Strat? Japanese perhaps?

There was a gold strat in the early 80s that is somewhat desirable, but if the neck is not original then the guitar is not what it claims to be. The gold ones, as far as I know, had small headstocks.
The underlying message here is that it is much safer not to buy a potential fake than it is to miss out on a questionable real-deal.

Well, whatever it is, it's mine. It plays decent....has a good Strat sound. I traded an Agile LP clone (Al-2500 Chrome) for it. I bought the Agile for $120 with a hard case. It came with Seymour Duncan humbuckers....a "Dimebucker" bridge pickup and a Jazz neck pickup. Sold the hard case for $40.00....took out the Duncans for "inventory" (new cost around $170 for the pair) and traded the Agile, with Epi humbuckers, for the gold Strat. So....basically, I'm into it for very little. I'll probably change the neck....I've got a few extras laying around here. You can never have enough Strats....
