Last night at band practice (church), the leader did this on his iphone. I don't have an iphone but could sure use some key changing at times.

What is a good one for Mac?

GarageBand.

You can also use QuickTime to make small shifts in pitch and/or tempo.

Doesn't work in GarageBand. It won't change keys for imported audio files.

I downloaded Audacity, for free, and it worked just fine.

+1 Audacity. Just be aware that if you change keys too radically, the result sounds pretty bizarre.

Luckily this was only a half step. I did it wrong first, went high and the vocals sounded like donald duck.

Most full-feature audio programs can shift the pitch of an audio file by semitones or cents. I use Sound Forge and it works great. Make sure to select "preserve duration" so the tempo remains the same as original. Also, slicing up the tune digitally can really flange the bejesus out of a sound file, so be judicious with the key jump. Three or four semitones up or down are about as good as it gets. Beyond that, and it will sound like Tweety Bird or Thurl Ravenscroft (you're a mean one, Mister Grinch) inside a dumpster.

I use BestPractice...Free and does pitch shifting, slow down and speed up, and looping.

Great for practice and learning parts
