Hey guys, I can't afford to be getting a new guitar unless it is under $600, but I would prefer to stay around $400-$500 because I am buying a Les Paul and a Mesa Boogie but I am going to need a strat or tele for my new band for some things. Can you guys help me get the best Mexican Tele or Strat with "22" frets?
When I was in the store the other week, I tried an import Tele that had a contour tummy cut that was great, just like the new American Standard Tele. Anyone know which model Tele this is? It was cheap so much be Mexican
I am fine picking a new one out, and used it fine too! Which models to look for, years, etc.
The thing is, with a Fender, I need to play a bunch till one speaks to me. So, what about the Highway series? I mean, I can get a new one for around $600 or so.
Must be "22" frets.
Thanks!

I personally would go for a Squier Standard or Deluxe Stratocaster, if I wanted a cheap but good 22 fret Strat

Rick makes a good suggestion as there's no need to get headstock envy given the guitars that Squier is producing these days.
I would look at used Fenders, too. You can get an older American Standard for that if you're really lucky, and you can get used HWY 1s in mint condition for $500 or less depending on color.

I have not seen a Highway One for less than $600 and plus I want the pick of the littler. I am not butying a used guitar on ebay! I want to go into a store and play 6 and find the top dog. That means buying new. What is the best price for a new Highway? $650? I LOVE the fat headstock, large frets and 12" board!!!!! Love the nitro finish too!

Highway 1s I believe are discontinued. Anything new will be NOS as far as I know.

HWY 1 is still listed on their website as a current model. And it has a 9.5" radius board, not 12".

If yer way up there around 22 frets, why are you asking for a Tele? A Tele is all about the tone at the other end of that thaaang.

You mean the Squiers?
If so, they seem to send different quality to Europe - could that be?

"aren't highway 1's called "specials" now?"
American Specials have Texas Specials and poly finishes.
HWY1s have ALNICO III pups and nitro finishes.
In every other aspect they are the same (jumbo frets, neck, Grease Bucket tone circuit, tone on bridge and no tone middle).
