Get one! They are a real blast, and really add sparkle and pop to the mix at acoustic jams. If you play mando, you can play banjo.

Consider a tenor banjo. You can "Chicago tune" it, which is D-G-B-E, just like the top four strings of a guitar (no new chord shapes to learn).

Tenor banjos are louder than standard five-string banjos, and work really well in the mix with guitars and bass.

What about a left handed "ganjo"? as some refer to it, an instrument with six strings strung and tuned like a normal six string guitar, but sonically all the physics/sound of a banjo. Anyone know of any available left handed ganjo's out there?

I *think* I've seen them on Amazon, but I'm too busy (lazy?) to go look right now...lots of the lefty stuff that's out there is listed on Amazon.

Musician's Friend has 6 or 7 six string banjos from $200 to $1700. As with most if not all, you just need to cut a lefthand nut turn the floating bridge 180 degrees swap the armguard if any to the lefty location and you have a lefty banjo.
I purchased the Dean model, converted it...but sold it cause I just could not get it down.
