I've got 8 tele's...its all i have... Ive had Strats, Gibsons'....Strats and Les Pauls are great guitars but I've found that the simplicity of the tele is where its at...
that being said...you can play any type of music on a tele.....a lot of its just technique and amp settings....
and yes u can play both pups at once..
I've found that the stock pickups are medicore at best..Changing them out is something I would consider.....many different ones to choose from....

So I went and played some new Telecaster. I was a little dissapointed to find the top is not contoured, so it still digs into your picking arm terribly and hurts!!! :( Oh well, I will have to keep looking for Strats and stick to my PRS and Gibsons.

Love these new Telecasters! Any thoughts on pickups? Should I look into Duncans? I hear a lot about the quarter pound pickups.

Definately not. Those stock CS pups are great in these new Teles. I have them in my Baja Tele. Best Tele pups I have. They work great in every position.

Really, that is great....I only played it unplugged. That good?
Noiseless?
What are the new pickups? What does CS stand for?

Those new pickups appear to be a Fender Broadcaster bridge pickup and the neck pup is a Twisted Tele pup. These are the same pickups that have been on the Classic Player Baja Tele for quite some time. Which is great news for Tele players, 'cause those pups sound great in the Baja Tele. Should do the same for the American Tele.

Yes to me they are really that good. The neck pup is glassy and fat and the bridge pup is strong and full. The mid position tone is clear and strong with great throaty mids.
Noiseless? No.They are noisey like any other true single coil pup.
CS stands for Custom Shop.

I too prefer the tele. It is my go to guitar and I have a les paul and a 339 as well. Never cottoned to a strat. I have several teles but I prefer a big neck and under 8 lbs, preferably 7.5 or less.

I played a transparent red American Standard Telecaster at GC today. Loved everything but the pickups. Weak and thin. The neck was heavenly. Body contours very nice. I would buy it but change the pickups if I had the cash to do so.
But I don't so I will stick with my CVC. Feels almost as good and sounds better to me.

Did you play a 2012? There are still a lot of new 2011 models out there. Different pups.

Wow, man I like the new 2012 Teles. This is the first Tele that I actually found comfortable! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new body contours! Nice.
What is the best price I should expect on a 2012 Amer. Stand. Tele?
I want to get a new one and install the Duncan Quarter Pounder set.

I bought a 2012 American Tele (Crimson Red with ash body and maple neck and fingerboard).
I absolutely love this Tele. It's comfortable and the sound is very very good!
I took it with me on stage last weekend and I fell in love with that Tele even more.

I believe wood choice depends on the specific finish ordered.

If wood choice depends on finish, Fender should note or list this on their site!?
This is the one I ordered and a friend of mine who is a Tele guy said the Tri-burst comes in both ash and alder.

I doubt that the 3-tone burst is available in ash. I think perhaps what your friend maybe was indicating is that the old-style 2-tone burst comes in ash...as does the natural (straight wood, no color) and the Crimson Red Transparent.

Thanks! I play in a hard rock and grunge band so I go for rock and hard rock tones. For that I find alder does best! I have to be honest, I slightly prefer the rock tones of a strat over a Tele, but I am much more comfy on a Tele and I don't like middle pickups. I am not a fan of country at all, so that also kept me away from Telecasters for years, but I want something different in my collection other than Gibsons and PRS.

Got one changed the Saddles to Brass Compensated three Barrel. Now is sounds more like a Tele than a Strat. I really like it a lot now. It wasn't real bad before just not as mellow as I like.
