Thanks for the advice. The sets we looked at so far both have either Zildjian or Sabian full sets, and are used.

They are both 5 piece sets, and the Tama set has the star-cast mounting system, and is in decent looking condition in the photos (craig's) 500.00

The other is a Pearl set with about the same configuration minus the Star-cast mounting system. It's also 500.00.

We haven't looked at them in person yet.

"The sets we looked at so far both have either Zildjian or Sabian full sets"

--- find out what type of Zildjians or Sabians?

Zildjian and Sabian both sell starter packs that are average at best, so if one of the sets has professional level cymbals, that would be a big plus.

We picked up a used set last night. Tama RockStar, from approximately 2000 were told.

The set was said to be barely used, and it looks like it. It's a beautiful dark blue. Not sure what the official color name is.

Not a scratch any were. Just a very slight bit of frosty corrosion on the inside of one tomb on the vertical inner bolts. They're more like screws with allen heads IIRC.

It came with mostly Sabians and one little special Zildjian. I'm not sure what it's called.

I'll get photos up soon. My friend paid 500.00. It ended up being a full set with 4 stands and symbols, throne, symbol pouch, sticks, and it was all very clean and unused looking.

The nice young college guy that sold them to my friend said it wasn't the cheaper line of Rockstar, but that the drums alone were 800.00 new, not like the 330.00 starter sets.

I'd say you did very well, sounds like a nice set. Congrats!

I just bought a used Tama Imperial Star set a few weeks ago and it is that same color (I dunno what the offical name of that color is, but I like it)! Looks great under the lights.

Tell your friend we said welcome to the world of drumming! I know he will have fun.

The color is likely Midnight Blue.

Tama makes great stuff. I’ve still got my Swingstar kit, purchased new in ‘83.

Little cymbal?? Could be a splash or Zil bell..

Like Lazmo pointed out if you know what you're doing a cheap set of drums with some good heads and proper tuning can be made to sound pretty good. Cheap cymbals will always sound cheap.. ;~)

Thanks for the pics! Nice looking drums. They are the exact same color as mine. Good to know the official name is Midnight Blue (thanks garp!).
