Got an email from Guitar Center advertising the new American versions. Will include enlarged string lots in the saddles, thinner undercoat, And Custom Shop pickups (Fat 50s in the Strat, Twisted Tele neck And I think Broadcaster bridge).
Price starts at $1099.
What do we think of this?

Nothing new since 08 besides the pickups for an extra 100 bucks. Maybe release something other than a Modern C neck on the standards .The necks the dealbreaker for me.

Just saw the new 2012 American Standards are listed on MF...but it doesn't mention the Custom Shop pickups that my e-mail did.

For about the same price...this comes with a matching headstock and a G&G tolex case, instead of the plastic one. Is G&L quality as good as Fender?

Soft V!
+1. I don't care for the modern C at all.

I don't mind the modern C. I like the soft V a LOT better, but the C doesn't give me hand cramps as badly as a Gibby Slim Taper does.

"I like the new green."
I like it also. Close to the army green John Mayer Strats they did a few years ago.

I bought a 2008 standard thinking it would Compliment my SRV.I loved the tone and it was a very solid guitar, but never bonded with the Modern C.Once I bought a 59 thinskin, the standard got sold.I just came to the conclusion that Modern C necks arent for me.Just wish they would offer a choice.

Since we're griping, why don't they finally go to stainless frets on the American Deluxes? I'm sure it's a real pain to pay for a level/dress on a compound radius board.

I'm not a big fan of the modern C, either. But my new Strat build has a 2011 modern C Fender neck on it. It feels unusual to me, but I've gotten used to it.
My late 1998 American Standard (which, technically speaking should have a similar neck), has a chunky, rounder-backed neck on it. And it is by far my favorite. Not sure why this guitar came this way. But the modern C feels very thin, and very flat on the back. But it plays and sounds good, so I'm happy to play it.

They are called American Standard. The prior model didn't last very long.

I'm surprised Fender doesn't use the term "4g" in their marketing (because you can play that note in 4 octaves). Going with the same logic, the MIM models are just "3D", while the Americans are "4D"!
