Looking for a simple, but effective compression pedal to use with my Strat for country music.
Suggestions?

Where might I find one of these, and why should it be my first and last stop?

"Do you like your compression subtle or pronounced?"
I have no idea... never used one before, except with my new Mustang III at rehearsal. And I believe that the model I was using had a pretty subtle setting. But it was enough for the lead singer to comment at practice that my tone sounded particularly good on an Alan Jackson song. Since I hardly every use chorus, I figure I should swap that pedal out for some compression.
So I guess my answer would be "subltle".

I've looked at MF and Guitar Ctr, and cannot find that brand at either one.

I'm pleased with my BBE BenchPress. Sounds transparent, does the job.

Keeley Compressor - 2 knobs, $229!
Why would the Keeley cost so much more than a Dyna Comp ($70), which also has 2 knobs?

Another fan of the Tone Press here, but the BBE Bench Press is a real good Ross clone.
As for why a Dyna-Comp costs less, it's mass produced with inexpensive components where the Keeley is more on the hand made side of things using top shelf components.
If you've never used a comp before, try borrowing or buying a used one to get an idea of what it does and if you really need one.
Oh, and JOYO makes a Dyna-Clone for around $50.00. Look on ebay.

The blend knob allows you to mix to taste the compressor effect with your clean signal. It also doubles as a clean boost and can add sustain without mushing the signal.

I love compressors and have owned many. Some of the better ones have been Keeley, Tone Press, Diamond, Carl Martin, and my current one is a Mad Professor Forest Green. Tomorrow I have an Empress due in.
Moderate to heavy compression really helps to get that 'country vibe' going. The trick is finding one that can deliver the punch and squish without messing up your dynamics.
Here's a little clip I made a couple days ago with the FG...a terrific little comp. They run about $195 new, in the CB version (not handwired).

Sorry, I didn't care for the Barber TP. Visual Sounds Rt 66 and Comp 66 have been on my boards for 4 years. Not to squishy or poppy. Clarity and eveness make things sound better to my ears.

Good idea, Pablo. I think that getting a used one might be the best thing to do in the short term. Then, after I've tried one for a while, and if I'm ready to upgrade, maybe I can try a few out at GC.

Kind of expensive, but the AnalogMan mini BiComp is quite a pedal. You get two sides but I have to be honest in that the Barber TP has been my baseline for 6 years and excellent for the $$.

I use my ancient MXR Dyna Comp, which I love. To me, this is what a compressor for guitar should sound like. I use it for all my single coil guitars. It accentuates that "nasaly" sound and the compression sounds natural and transparent.
I recently bought an Anologman Bi-comp. It has the Ross and the Orange Squeezer circuits built into one. The Ross is comparable to my Dyna while the OS side is more subtle and adds some "grit". So far I like it but I like the DC the best.

All the more reason to get the Tone Press. I realy can't see a down side to this unit. Love it.
