Michael had been living in my town for the past few years studying art...never met him, didn't listen much to him beyond the first album or so, but he certainly had an influence on people - at least his band did. Thought he deserved a mention.

Nice write-up. It's been a big story around here.
They were really something to behold. Mike and Dennis Thompson just held on, and were really pretty solid, while the other three were like a cyclone. Only 2 left now.

Very nice write-up.
I live in Michigan so I saw the MC5 play many times.......we had to drive to Flint, Michigan to get their first record because it was banned in the city I lived in............They did a great show....but loud!!!!!!!!!!

"The Five" as we called them in Detroit, stormed through the rock world like a whirlwind, briefly but with enough energy to move the whole genre a bit. Their live show has never been equaled for energy & attitude.
Sorry to hear about Michael's passing.

Thanks for the link to Louder Than Love. (the story of the Grande Ballroom). I lived there on weekend nights- fabulous! The "Five"s first album as recorded live there.
