Hi!
I got a cv 60 tele since about 6 months ago. I also play a 2000 am series strat, a cv 60 strat and an Ibanez Prestige.

The thing is that I always keep coming back to play the cv 60 tele. It's the one that feels and sounds the best to me amoung these different animals..

If i was in the market for an american tele, which one IYO would feel and sound as good as this Squier 60 CV Telecaster?

I think you have answered your own question. If none of your Teles sound as good as your Squier 60 CV, I'd just play the CV and be done with it. You already have the best sounding Tele.

I had a Squier Tele that I sold to a friend a couple years back. Man, I wish I had never sold that guitar. It felt good, looked good and sounded great.

Ya you're right BbendFender, but you know, there are times you wish it would be written Fender instead of Squier on your main axe...know what I mean... Ya I could sand off the logo an put a Fender logo instead but, that kind of thing is not my cup of tea!

The American Standard, new version, old version, or the older American Series are the equivilant guitar.
If your CV has a bound body, perhaps you should look for a Fender neck on Ebay as a less expensive upgrade.
Upgrade is probably not the best word to use. Change would be a better choice. Your are not necessarily going to get a better neck. more so a different label.

Yep , to swap the neck is another optionj indeed. But i'm not sure I'll end up with the same playability. The cv neck seems thinner and narrower than am standard teles.

To be honest so far I have 2 Teles that sound better than the American models..

One of them is my early 90's MIJ '69 Reissue Tele Thinline. That guitar has a beautiful sound that is just so alive as soon as you hit the first note.

The other is my 2010 Baja Tele. Great sounding and playing guitar.

I would still love to own a 52 Reissue Tele but I haven't found one that sounds as good as the 2 above.

A Squier is in no way a "lesser" guitar that on that has Fender on the headstock. Sure--it's not as expensive--but what really matters is the player. There is a perverse joy to be had by playing a cheaper guitar alongside other players that use high-dollar instruments...and holding your own in the process.

It's not the guitar. It's the player.

I have an all original 73 Deluxe I bought new in 73 but with those humbuckers it's just not a tele.
I have a Squier Classic Vibe 50s as my go to git.
The hardware will probably be replaced one day and I may try a different PUP or two but my 73 sits under the bed. Growing in value I hope.

I would agree with Peegoo...A Squire is in no way a "lesser" guitar. I have the CVC60 double bound and like you I wanted an American version. Here is where the trouble starts....To get an American version with the same features you will have to go to Fenders custom shop and get a NOS 60's custom. I have that guitar also (pic's in profile). My 60's custom is the best playing and sounding Tele I own....Hands down, but at what cost. It took a custom shop model to top that CVC60....Keep playing your Squire CV and live long and prosper.

this is interesting...I'm in a quandry at the moment, looking for a workhorse replacement for my no.1 tele which I want to semi - retire (its a mish mash of mexican/japanese/US parts and is so comfortable and sounds amazing and i'm concerned I wont be able to replace it unless I spend custom shop money which I havent got) its the fender 'custom vintage' pups, i bought the guitar used with these pups already in them (in an old squier body which I later attatched a mexican neck onto)

nothing comes close to the sound and charater of these pups...i got a mex classic 60's - highly regarded yet sounded harsh and 2 dimensional compared to my tele
then I built one from scratch - good quarter sawn maple neck, solid alder body, all good hardware (ashtray, brass etc), good set of pups...still not a patch on mine

Anyway I digress - I'm in the market for a new guitar with a budget of about £250 so its either going to be a ltd edition Epi sg with 2xP90's (next best thing to a good tele), or a burns with trisonics, or a CV tele custom..or one of those new vintage modified tele specials

My brain says "dont buy another tele, none of them match up to mine" but my heart says "get the classic vibe tele" because theyre so well regarded and many folks say theyre better than their US teles

also i've read reviews of the squiers with 'duncan designed' pups and folks say they 'suck'

I dont want to buy another tele which might be dissapointing compaed to my no.1 but the CV 60's custom and the new VM tele special are screaming "buy me!!!"

frustratingly I have no idea what the pup in no.1 tele is, other than its 'custom/vintage' fender and it sounds wonderful..so if I was to buy one of those lovely squiers I wouldnt have a clue which replacement pup to get if the squier pup wasnt up to scratch

Problem solved, I got a Danelectro...no more buying telecasters and selling them as they dont match up to my No 1 tele.

So..an outstanding Tele, an Epi SG with a great sounding HB sized P90 and a Dano, I'm in tone heaven

(nearly bought a strat but came to my senses!)

I played an American Standard Tele and an American Special last night at GC and the Special just felt better to me neck wise and was a little lighter.

What Bbender said from the get-go! I'm sick of the freakin' snobbery when it comes to offshore axes. My '10 CV Custom tele is the nicest axe I've owned. Outside of the bridge pup crapping out twice ( maybe because of leaning it againest a vibro champ) no problems whatsoever. Not even a setup! My '94 Epi LP's a beast as well.

My best Tele is an '03 G&L ASAT Special (MIK). Super sweet guitar; bought it used for about $300. Can't imagine a nicer playing and sounding tele. Just my two cents...
