I started a New Years Challenge, I have to post a new song a week, not really worried about audio quality, but I got my gear back from my son's band today and recorded some stuff quickly.
Bang your Drum and the acoustic Drunk again last night were done today. If anyone has a listen I'd appreciate some real feedback, all my friends say is it's great, which is nice, but I have a year of this so I'd like to learn some stuff along the way.

I'm not much of a singer so be nice, but tips on the quality, effects, EQ, etc would be very welcome. There's not much time so some of the songs will be pretty sucky, but I figure if I get a couple good songs all year then it's worth it.

I usually play pretty rocking Blues, but when I write I write this kinda stuff :-(

I'm using Garage Band, with a Presonus FirePod and a couple of 57's.

I'm listening to Bang Your Drum. Very nice effort. I like the song.

I'd pull some lows out of the vocals.

The acoustic sounds very nice. Are you double tracking it? If so I'd pan them a bit to give it a stereo image. If not, consider recoding another acoustic track and pan them.

Thanks Chris, exactly the kind of things I'm looking for. It was all done in one take. But I will see about adding another track. Is it possible to take the existing guitar track and copy it again and slightly delay it, or better to just record it again?

It is faster than asking.

I always prefer to play the double track myself, but you can do what you are suggestiong. I also like to mic it with 2 mics and pan them left and right.

Assuming that you have enough inputs.

Interesting story songs, but I was struggling to understand the vocals in a few places. Are the acoustic tracks separate passes? I think you could get more strength and clarity in the vocals by tracking the guitar first then singing along to it with more focus on telling the story to the audience rather than letting it melt into the guitar so much.

Your voice is fine, it just needs some confidence.

Well it that's time of the week, got to spend a few hours today on the next song.

I actually tried to bump the acoustic track over for a slight delay on "Bang Your Drum" and couldn't figure it out in the time I had. Garageband wanted to lock it into it's next defined spot which was way too much delay.

So today I recorded two guitar tracks, though one was a lead track.
I tried to put in less bass which I had boosted in the vocal in the last song.

Dadical except for the lead track today everything was done at once before. I may try to do a basic track first next week if I have time.

If interested both guitar tracks today were done with a Mustang I amp with a 57 hanging in front of it.

Today's song is 2 O'clock

This website features one of the songs I've written and recorded recently for a forthcoming rockabilly CD. It will begin playing as soon as you click the link. The song, which describes a rockabilly hot rod show in Symco, WI, is being used this year to promote the event. Still working on a few more tunes. No backup band. moulton...I enjoyed "too much Alcohol", sounds kind of "Live feeling" like I am sitting in a booth about 15 feet away from the stage in a small gin mill...I like the slow passages in the first verse better than the in time sections...very nice, are you playing a dobro?

I wish FM, had to sell my 1935 Dobro to pay some bills a few months ago. Was playing slide on my Martin HD28V.
(so it's not all bad, I get a lot more mileage out of the Martin :-). I'll have another Dobro someday, though I found it very tough to play because of the weight, it did sound awesome though.
