When did the Jagmaster go to short scale? I'm looking at a 2005 or so for $175.00

Don't know exactly, but I bought mine new in 2005 and it's a short-scale. They had very recently changed over.
I believe the longer 25 1/2" scale models usually sported a metallic finish.
The first versions of three versions, as you may know, were also short scale and the necks were interchangable with actual Jaguars. (Not so the latest versions.) These early Jagmasters had "Vista" on the headstock and were made in Japan. Highly desirable, of course.
Nice guitars, IMHO! Fun to mod. Enjoy!

If you believe the link below , it could be either. Looks like one way to tell is whether it has 21 or 22 frets.

I've got one of the old "Vista Series" Jag-masters. Long-scale, big headstock, beautiful tone. I've never put another one in my hands that plays as well (and I keep my eyes open for them). It got packed wrong into the cargo bay of a bus when I was a Freshman in college, and the headstock split long-ways through the b-string tuner. I had it glued back together (by an authorized Fender repairman) to keep everything as original as possible. If you can find and old Vista, scoop it up - it'll be well worth the extra money.

I'm pretty sure the Vistas had spare fender necks. And I'm also sure S9 series Korean squiers had fender necks, based on the look, feel and quality of one I foolishly sold. many Squiers have had outstanding necks but this was a cut above.
