""I never lived in Oklahoma. I don't care what that paper says."

At least your songs, albeit less frequent, are killer good!"

Thank you, Dave. It's been a long road since I started this thread and jumping out of the rat race has put the frequency back into my songwriting. Not exactly prolific but way more than in 2011. Hah, the Oklahoma reference from my tune "In California" just worked out with the syllables. The premise being an Alzheimer's patient indignantly dismissing the notion of being from Oklahoma and fixated on California. Personally I've never been to either ;-)

El Kabong, sorry to hear about your trials. That's a tough one. While I have no illusion of rockstardom here while kicking 60 in the ass, I love the connection to a passion I've had since before I even picked up a guitar. I consider what I do "sonic refrigerator art". I scribble with my musical crayons then tape it up on the fridge. Like anyone else, I'd dig it if a music editor stumbled across something of mine and found a place for it in some sort of media (film/TV, etc.). At this stage I don't even have the motivation to go chasing THAT dream.

Rock on, fellow songwriters.

For me, when the creative juices aren't flowing I work on improving my guitar playing. Since moving to Tennessee in 2015 that's about all I've done musically. I'm starting to get a boat-load of bad technique playing habits cleaned out of my locker. Haven't written anything but when I do the guitar playing is going to be better. At least that's something that's musically productive.

This forum needed a bump. The crickets were starting to take over. That's why I replied to this thread.

Another bump.... Songwriting has really gotten a hold of me lately. I wrote about 17 songs in a mad rush last February, as part of an online challenge with other songwriters.

Then I didn't write anything--though meantime I was refining and performing some of those songs--until writing 2 songs in October; one of those is a keeper.

Now I am working on recording eight my best songs for an album--I am learning recording on the fly so "demo" quality might be what comes out, but hey.

Last week some friends came over and graciously asked to hear my recent songs. I performed six of them, and the husband remarked that, unlike airplay songs, which are for and about youth, or oldies about our youth, mine are about adults, our contemporaries in our lives today.

His comment was illuminating; I'm not ruling out other approaches but maybe that's my niche.
