I stumbled upon this Youtube video with 4 quick fixes you can do instantly to improve your singing. I've forwarded it to all my music friends, I found the very first tip to be so obvious after his demonstration that I felt like a knucklehead for not knowing it.
I'm a hack singer. Took a few lessons, bought a lot of video instuction, really found a lot of help from Jeffery Allen's Secrets of singing success.? This little Youtube video is awesome.

It seemed kinda hokey at first, but that guy is a real effective coach with stuff you can use.

Ya...I got more out of those 4 videos than ALL the other stuff I've tried, not to say that the other stuff wasn't useful. I feel kinda dumb as I should know this stuff already but I didn't.

I think I was excited so I exaggerated a bit. The first video is the nugget, The other one (don't know which) about sliding up to the higher pitch was good too. The "vowels"...who'd have thunk?

all four of those videos cover exactly what my singing teacher was going on about for the last couple of lessons. I was using Elvis' "Can't help falling in love" as a good example of singing on the vowels. Marking where to breath, take pauses, etc has also feature heavily.

Simple, non-quackery stuff. Good find Warren

I found the ramping up to a high note instead of just nailing it to be helpfull to me

I tried the "ramping up" on lower tones as well and it works too. Always sliding up, slightly. The vowel thing is what slayed me the most though. Watching and actually applying these tricks can make all the difference in the world to someone who's been trying but needs a little help. I know lessons are the real way to go but these can help a great deal.

Good stuff. I've been working on improving my vocals simply by singing a lot. That only goes so far. Need some technique. This is a good starting point. Thanks!

Being originally from the NY metro area, my vowels started out being in need of major work just to be understandable in a speaking voice, lol

Thanks Warren, that bit about "chewing" was very interesting. I've noticed many of the stars doing this, and wondered why they did it! I just thought they were "in the moment" or something, but it's an actual technique!
