I am looking for a drop-in set of tuners for my 5120. Looking at the Wilkinsons (Waverly clones) as best bet. Are these drop in or will I need to rout out the holes? What size pegs do I need for drop-in ease?

Yeah, I know it's an old question, but for anyone that is interested.....
The Waverly clone tuners (like the one that Guitar Fetish sells) are a drop-in replacement on a Gretsch 5120. I installed a set last year and they are an excellent choice and the quality is amazing for the price.

But IMHO, the original tuners on the 5120's are very good, so don't expect any improvements by changing them out!

I made the change solely for looks because I was not crazy about the etched pattern on the original tuners.
