I am not a drummer but I have been tasked with checking into this for our church. We have shields around our kit but we really need a complete booth. Suggestions? Is it possible to take what we have and purchase a few more panels for the sides and a lid? Who would be a good vendor to contact? Thanks!

IMHO, the drummer should attempt to exhaust all remedies to either dampen the kit further and/or adjust his/her playing technique before you spend money on more shields. I’ve played in numerous church settings over the years, but I’ve never had to use any type of shielding.

Are brushes a possibility? Have the snare, toms and kick been sufficiently dampened? Can the kit itself be relocated to a different position where its volume isn’t being magnified quite as much by the room’s natural acoustics?

I know of one drummer in a church group who finally resorted to using an electronic kit because it offered a much easier means of controlling volume without impeding his technique. Admittedly, it’s a rather expensive option.

If you ultimately find that additional shields are the only answer, FDP sponsor Musician’s Friend has a decent assortment of shield options available. I’ve honestly never seen a “lid” being used, but that doesn’t mean that one doesn’t exist.

I agree with garp, on all fronts. The only other suggestion I would have as an alternative to brushes would be HodRods or LightningRods.
